Mountain climbing

Post by Decepticon » Sat, 28 Jan 2012 12:26 am

Hi,

Anybody here interested to do mountain climbing?
I want to climb some mountains in Malaysia or Indonesia.

Haven't do it for a while and would like to start again.
Anybody interested to join?

there are 2 very active outdoor adventure groups in Singapore that do trips that you're looking for on meetup.com. Else there is the Singapore Adventure Club - and a couple of equipment shops (one on 3rd? floor of Velocity) also run their own trips. Good way to get to know people and then you can do your own.

For starters, you can try climbing Mount Kinabalu, the tallest peak in Malaysia at above 4000m above sea level.

And it also has via ferrata route for the more adventurous ones.

Going there is easy. All you need is to book a package with the National Park, book a direct flight from Singapore to Kota Kinabalu and you're set!

There is marine park for diving/snorkelling and great hot springs for relaxation before/after the climb :)

Edit: The ranking :P

Wrong - its the 3rd tallest peak... Brilliant marketing and use of the english language by the Sabah tourism board!

What do you mean 'accessible'? All mountains are accessible. Granted, you only need to apply for permission for those that are protected.

Nope - it is just the result of a brilliant marketing campaign by Sabah Tourism who call Mount Kinabalu as one of the tallest mountains in South East Asia. Most people read it, but miss the "one of" part.
