NS for A Secomd Gen PR

Post by masiewpao » Mon, 02 Jan 2012 5:52 pm

Hi there! So my situation now is that I'm a 16 year old PR who's been living in singapore my whole life. Although i was born here, I am, and have been, a British citizen from birth. The question i've got now is if it would be illegal for me to leave the country once I turn 18 and return to Britain, with the only consequence being the loss of my pr status? Would it technically be legal? And what about if I were to study in another country outside of Britain? Thanks for the help, i've been so confused!

Yep, illegal and you will be banned from ever entering Singapore again, for work, PR, play, anything. You will be tagged as a deserter and rightly so.

Without following proper protocol, you are breaking the law that your parents new about when you were born. You only have them to blame.

But to my understanding i've not done anything illegal thus far! When i was born i had the option of following one of my parents nationalities which i did so legally and ended up a brit. Would it be illegal if i formally renounced my pr status brfore leaving?

If you took up PR here, and don't serve NS you are doing something illegal according to the laws of the country that you willing became a Permanent Resident of. How hard is that to understand? Your renouncement will not be approved until you serve NS. If you leave without doing so, you have defaulted on your PR and the penalties are already there. Leave at your own future peril.
