Internships in Singapore

Post by chriswheadon » Wed, 21 Apr 2010 5:50 pm

Hello everyone,

My name's Chris and I'm from Wales, UK. I've recently been applying for summer internships in Singapore and KL (where I currently am) but haven't had much luck so far. Most job postings are looking for Singaporeans or PRs. To share a little more about my situation, here's an extract from my CV:

"I am a second year undergraduate student, studying BA Business Economics and Management at Nottingham University, Malaysia. Having lived and studied in four different countries I have experience in working in multicultural environments, and have learned to be independent and adaptable.

I enjoy an active life of studies, sports and travel. My goal is to remain in Asia to pursue a career in the financial services industry or as a market analyst, for both of which I have developed a keen interest. "

I would really appreciate it if anyone could offer me advice on this matter (e.g where to apply). I would like nothing more than to spend my summer as an intern in Singapore!

From having a quick look around the forum, I can see that I've got no chance. It's going to be very difficult (if not impossible) for me to get such an internship isn't it? I better start looking at prices for flights back to the UK.

But still, if anyone's got any advice (apart from go home), I'd really appreciate it.

I got my internship before by perseverance. I was 19, my resume was empty and I wanted to go to Singapore, pretty impossible. I was a second year bachelor student in Europe.

I emailed embassies in Singapore for lists of expats in Singapore. These lists include email addresses and phone numbers. I emailed and called them all, including country clubs etcetera.

After 2 weeks I received an email of an expat saying that he had never seen a person with such a drive. He offered me an internship in his company and I had the best 6 months of my life.

It is possible, but you have to be more creative and lucky! If you go for the normal route, I guess it will be hard.

This is what I am trying now, but the embassies keep telling me they cannot give me these lists due to privacy reasons. How did you do it?

Very true. I know that you'll never get this info out of the US Embassy... they don't even have it.

ANYONE STILL LOOKING FOR AN ITNERNSHIP??

Post by Erica23 » Tue, 13 Sep 2011 3:40 pm

Anyone still looking for an internship in these areas such as Business sales and marketing, graphic design and editorial?

I realised that it is pretty difficult to look for interns other than partnering with schools and intern.sg. If anyone is interested, you can email me at [email protected] .

Or does anyone have any other suggestions of where to look for people who are interested in internships?
