search by price travel site

Post by Flocations » Sat, 20 Aug 2011 2:29 pm

okay so i think my last post got deleted, may have been confused with an ad :(

Anyways i was hoping to get some feedback from travelers here because i want to create a website where you can search destinations by price. meaning you put in your price/budget to fly then you get a map of all the places you can go for your budget so you can see with the options to book. what does everyone think?

how will you get the airlines to give you their pricing data? answer that and you would have made a significant step.

budget travel airlines' booking data are in the public domain. we would essentially scrape the data for our own use. When you do need to book, we would connect you back to that specific carrier's website to book.

Manually? That would be too slow, with budget airlines having sales right and left. Cebu Pacific, for example, would have a sale with only a one-hour window. The big airlines may give you their APIs but there's a reason budget airlines don't show up in sites like zuji or hipmunk.

Well, no it would be automated and set to scrape at a preset interval. We're not concentrating on the sales right now so we'll leave the hourly sales for someone like flightlovers.sg to do that.

Anways, the "how to" problems have been solved,[solicitation removed]

This already exists on vs euro budget airlines.

I don't recall the link. It must have been that underwhelming.

Flocations, you are going to go far. If you keep it up it's going to be soon.
