Singapore has a highly developed and sophisticated digital information system which has all relevant regulatory bodies linked up.

Any debt incurred, especially by foreigners who left in a hurry, will automatically been informed to Singapore Immigration and Customs, and be treated possibly as a criminal offence.

Any attempt to re-enter Singapore will thus have the "offender" be stopped at the custom check-point and be led away by the police for further investigation.

Wow technocity--this is a load of crap! Plenty of people have SG court summons and outstanding debts and travel frequently to and from Singapore.

Are you the scary troll under the bridge? To the original poster--you won't have any trouble getting back into SG, but you may have trouble getting another contract, especially with the original provider.

Hate to be the bearer of bade tidings, but all the major government databases ARE now linked and if there IS an outstanding warrant and has been flagged, they WILL be picked up. In fact, they are picking up quite of few maids, and prostitutes already using a facial recognition software create here in Singapore, even though they have gotten new passports with different names. Recently a transfer of technology was exchanged between Australia & Singapore regarding the linkages and the recognition softwares. And yes, I am the scary troll as I know some people that were involved in the initial consolidation & linkage over the past 4 or 5 years. Further to that, it was also in the papers around a year or 1.5 years ago about the ongoing successes with the linking up of the 5 or 7 major government databases. How do you think they pick up NS evaders?

No problem setting me straight. :)

BUT, have you seen a warrant served for outstanding telecom bills? or even credit card bills? I don't think they "care" so much about this kind of crime--yet. But I agree, as more database links are created it will force segments of this population to clean up their act.

I just don't think Singapore is there yet when it comes to debts owed to telecoms.

I agree, but it probably won't be long before commercial crimes will be in there as well, as when a lodgement is done, it is entered into one of the governments databases so the distinct possibility is there. I think it's just a "do we want to go that far at this point" type of thing. I think they've already got to technology.

Well, there are telecom legal notices leading to court action, costing 2,000 $ to recover a 500 $ due .. and with a court action comes "Bankruptcy" and that is - more than complicating and gets into all records ..

I have seen that, in my former apartments when the previous tenants disappeared without settling ..

Of course, I waited till max, and then sent a letter saying "sorry, as it was not addressed to me, I ddin't open it, but since this one was so official, me opened it, and found some legal demand/leading to seizure of my 'former' tenant, and the current lease is under my name .. "

Not sure if that would have lead to arrest, but if they had filed for bankruptcy, then things maybe a bit interesting when a person arrives in Singapore ..

Then all ceased ..
