What is PCM?

Post by athard » Tue, 28 Jun 2011 12:03 pm

Hi,

I have a quick question about PCM. As far as I know, it stands for "Per Calendar Month". However, it doesn't add up. I was on the Robert Walters Singapore site and was looking at different job listings. Under the salary level choices, there is annual salary and PCM. That doesn't make sense. For example, for the salary levels $100K to $150K, it says $4-6K PCM.

Could someone please clarify? Is it PCM after tax? Are taxes really that high?

If you bothered to look on the IRAS website you'd know what the tax rates are

If he's from the US he would probably type in IRS instead of IRAS. Not everybody goes to my links page to check out all the gubmint links there either. And he might not understand the difference between resident and non-resident rates either.

So I did the research on tax rates, the numbers still don't add up.

The Robert Walters site lists the PCM at $4-6K per month for someone earning between $100k and $150k. After taxes, one would still earn more per month. So what am I missing?

Take a look at the salary dropdown on the left.

Someone's made a balls up on the drop down list, that's all I can tell you. If salaries are quoted per month then it usually means before tax, and the figures they use don't match the overall yearly salary before or after tax.

THANK YOU! I thought that I completely misunderstood something and that PCM meant something else in Singapore. :)

Thanks for proving that i'm not totally insane. :)
