UK Passport - social visit pass

Post by tyty15 » Thu, 26 May 2011 7:44 pm

Hi, I've been lurking here for the past few weeks and would like to say that the forum has been extremely helpful and educational.

I'm posting now because I'm a bit confused and am wondering if someone can help me.

Everywhere I've read (this website, others on the inet, the MOM site etc) says that a UK passport holder will only be granted a 30 day social visit pass. However, I've been told by some friends in Singapore that they know of UK citizens who received a 90 day pass instead? Given the he says she says format of my information, I was wondering if anyone could help clarify/confirm?

Secondly, assuming that I will only receive a 30 day pass on my UK passport, I have seen on the ICA website (and through various threads on this forum) that this can be extended to a 90 day one. However, I'm just a bit confused on the sponsor issue - the ICA website says that "You will require a local sponsor* if you are seeking an extension of short term Visit Pass to 89 days from the date of entry" - does this mean that I don't need a local sponsor if I'm extending it to 88 days from the date of entry?

Thirdly - I am coming to Singapore to seek employment (yes, another one!!!). Would it be useful to be honest and state this on the embarkation card, or say that I am here for a holiday instead?

Thank you so much for your help in advance.

U.K is 'normally' 90 days. But I believe it can be at the immigration officers discretion.

If you are coming here to look for work, you don't need to declare that. You are free to see and do what you want while you are here. Might be worth checking on the MOM site to ensure you qualify for the relevant passes etc.

Depending on how long you are here for, without stating the obvious here, try to get as much in the diary before you arrive so you can maximise your opportunities. I don't know your industry, but, as a general rule, you'll have more success at finding a job or at least getting some traction if you are present in Singapore.

Just let the immigration officer know when you arrive at the counter that you would like to have a 90 day visa. No problem.

No, it means you will require a sponsor if you seek an extension of any period of times "UP TO 89 DAYS from the date of entry".

Makes no difference whatsoever. But leave it off as noted above, it's not necessary to state.

Thank you so much for your help in advance.

If you go to Ferrer Park there are *travel agents* who will help you extend your Social Visit pass by another 30 days.

Not sure if its dodgy or they are legit but I have seen this advertised at Internet Cafes and such establishments.
