Camping in Malaysia

Post by shveta10 » Mon, 18 Apr 2011 11:39 pm

Hi all,

We are planning a self drive and camping trip to Malaysia. Please suggest good camping sites in areas near Singapore. We are open for suggestions by the sea, mountain or in the forest.

Cheers,
Shveta

Try this

BTW if you are going up Gunung Lipur or Gunung Tahan ranges, you are required to report and register your names to the nearest police station.

Within the designated camping areas where the national park office provides camping equipment e.g. here-> http://www.malaysia-trulyasia.com/tourism/camping.htm, it is absolutely safe to set up camp. However, there are reports of campers who strayed in the wild and were attacked by animals or local robbers (source: newspapers), so you don't wanna stray far from the usual camp-sites where people regularly go.
Make sure you have the necessary survival equipment and a signaling system (or just make a lot of smoke) like when you are camping anywhere else. The url above lists some of the best camping sites; though Gunung Panti recreational forest, which is a 3 hour drive from Woodlands, Singapore is one good place for seeing nice forest and spend a couple of nights. Make sure you carry a mosquito repellant :)
