How can you have a 'Masters' and yet be so utterly clueless?

Tell me SE/SMS... what is it like interviewing people, and being faced with candidates with 'Masters', and yet apparently zero initiative?
Is it as a result of being spoon-fed? Taught to the test? Or cultural not thinking out of the box?
I don't know what to make of it...

Zero initiative seems to be the norm these days, and not only in the AP region. It is all about the deflection of responsibility. To act is to risk, with the potential for failure. Better to ask someone else, then if you do act, and based upon that advice you fail, there is someone else to blame.

Wow... I read that and sat staring at the clouds passing by in the sky for a minute or two. That cultural shift is really hard to get my head around. I expect it would be one for another topic, but could be very interesting.
The death of risk-taking and initiative?

Hi Aargon,
I did not intend it to be harsher than fair, I was truly surprised at the question.
I would have expected a person with a Masters to be beyond averagely intelligent. I would have expected them to researched (here and elsewhere) and explored the issue of visas. I would have expected them have explored using jobhunt websites, recruiters and classified listings. I would have expected them to have discussed it with their tutor at their college in KL. In other words I would have expected them to have used some initiative, formed an answer to their own question and presented it here for comment/suggestions.
But what do we get instead 'I have Masters, how do I search/get a job in SG?'. The OP didn't even state what field they studied or intend to work in.
Hope my surprise is a little clearer now.

I think this thread has been misunderstood by many of us. I scroll up and down trying to figure out what actually he is trying to convey.
I came to the conclusion that he is translating directly from Mandarin to English.
Masters in Mandarin is Lao Pan or Lao Tze which mean senior or teacher or the learned one.
So..... basically what he is saying is Hello Masters albeit Seniors . I need advise on how to acquire job in SG. I have done my Masters at Taylors College. I maybe wrong here but this is my thoughts

well my expectation of someone with a masters, is basically someone who couldnt get a job when they graduated - there are the odd exceptions - OP not being one of them.
Mad Scientist sounds like someone with a masters degree

Yeah. Unless someone is directed at a career in the field of study I agree. It is often merely a delaying tactic to keep the scary reality of the real world at bay.

Hehe, don't see the evidence coming together there... reckon he's gonna come and give you a kick for that!
