Indie music scene in Singapore?

Hey,

I'm an 23/M moving to Singapore in July and looking for good places to see shows.

What is the indie music scene like in Singapore and where are good places to go see live music? Also, do smaller European and American indie bands make it over or is it just big stadium bands on world tours?

indie music scene is kinda disapointing
however i do see some bands coming to play especially this year!so i guess the scene is growing here bit by bit.

a big indie fan here

and professional gig goer!lol

bands i like/love/listen to:
toro y moi,neon indian,the national,the black keys,manchester orchestra,wilco,rachel ries,the pains of being pure at heart,man man,arcade fire,sts9,dream diary,spoon,yeasayer,yuck.

too many to name......
i dig new sounds as well.

french horn rebellion gig this thur,kinda surprised they're playing here.

yeah I'd be very interested in some indie shows, but so far I have been rather disappointed by the bands that come here. at least I will see the Black Keys in Minneapolis this summer

Got it. What site do you look at for upcoming Singapore shows?

I guess I'll have to see as many shows as I can beforehand and then book at trip back to SXSW next spring.

Seeing Toro y Moi next week. Probably moving before Lollapalooza but should be able to hit up Pitchfork beforehand.

20th anniversary for Lollapalooza this year,better be good.

it's the main ticketing agency here.

but keep an eye on concert promoters' twitter as well,such as LAMC,Midas,Untitled Enterntaiment,Greenhorn,also magazines like Juice.

Indie doesn't thrive in Singapore, but that being said it isn't particularly the worst place in the world for indie musicians.

I'm in a band too and we aren't strictly indie, but the biggest issues we face are promoters and other concert managers who go 'how much crowd you bring ah?' pfft. We do try to keep things going though:)

I sort of follow the local indie scene...Monster Cat, B-Quartet, Great Spy Experiment are some of the bands I like...try going to a few gigs, get to know the musicians, and the whole scene unfolds to you.

i went to their album release gig earlier this year as my friend was sort of in charge of it...

never my type of thing.

i used to dig the local music scene here earlier on,went to gigs on a regular basis,went to baybeats as well,ever had some hope for it.it seemed to get thriving a bit for a short period of time,then the tides went down again.

SMS - i went for their fundraiser concert a couple of months ago. not too bad! but honestly, manila puts out better hard rock, no bias intended.

angeljoy - "professional gig goer" you're paid to go see these shows? working in the media?

ah i wish i could get paid it'll save me a fortune!
but yeah,i'm a professional gig goer on my very own,actually my grow-up history could be a documentary about concerts.guess that brings me to know some friends working in the industry.

gonna catch the pains this summer@Lolla,but honestly their live is pretty weak,same thing happens to the smiths westerns.

i guess those new little hot bands do have some problems with their live performance which requires them to practise more.other than that,it's always fun to soak into the crowd and enjoy the show.

my next gig plan is The Drums.
