McGyver's resourcefulness.

Reuters earlier reported that the Fukushima plant was storing more uranium than it was originally designed to hold, and that it had repeatedly missed mandatory safety checks over the past decade, according to company documents and outside experts.

Situation is critical even though they have cooled the one that was boiling dry.

The USA is now concerned with its own storage facilities as they pack them more densely with spent fuel rods in 64 power stations than the Japanese do.

"The story was written in Vietnamese by a Vietnamese Japanese who is a Japanese police officer. I read this on a website and I sent the writer a comment/email to ask him to allow me to translate his story to English, but he has not responded to my request yet. It could be that he is so busy to help people in Fukushima. The following is a story about a Japanese boy who is 9 years old in third grade.

Yesterday night, I was assigned to an elementary school to help distributing food to people. The line of people was zigzag and very long. The last person in the line was a little boy about 9 years old got my notice. The weather was chilly cold, but he only wore a t-shirt and a short. I was afraid that he would not get anything when got to his turn. I walked to him and talked to him. He told me that when the earthquake happened he was in his PE session. His father who worked nearby his school ran to school tried to get him. From the balcony on the third floor he could see his father car. And then he could also see the tsunami water wiped his father car away. When asked about his mother, he told that his mother stayed home with his younger brother. His house is not far away from the beach, so he assumed that they could not escape the tsunami wave. his eyes was in tears when I asked about his family members.

I took off my police uniform jacket and covered his tiny body because it was very cold. At that time the dried food that I saved in the jacket’s pocket came out. I picked it up and gave that to him and said to him “You may not get anything when your turn. Here is the food that may help you not to be hungry.”

"My son came home this weekend and started doing yard work (a rare event I have to admit) when I asked him why here's what he said "I need to earn some money". I, being an American parent to a pre-teen boy figured it was for video games and asked him for what. He looked me dead in the eye and said "Mrs. Townsend (his teacher) told us about Japan today. Do you know they lost everything mom? Did you know that there are kids who lost their parents and homes?" I told him I did. He went on to explain "so, I'm going to earn some money and send it over". Good kids come in all countries and hearts are big everywhere. If a ten year old child can see the benefit of helping these people than the rest of us can too! God bless you Japan!"

And he is very right:
Everybody can help.
I will follow his example ( not regarding your garden  ) and check - out possibilities to help.
Thank you for the example!

To make things worse, there are some reports about the aid from various sources rotting in warehouses, because of Red Tapism and what not.
THIS i didn't expect from the people who perfected the JIT (Just In Time) concept.

America's large problem of nuclear waste, almost 80,000 tons and no place for storage scattered around the US. My god why don't they send it too the moon or something!

KSL - Imagine if all this Nuclear stuff resulted in some alteration of the Moon's properties, by which it generates extra large gravity and pulls up Higher waves  and leads to a fresh onslaught of tragedy.

Cant imagine the consequences of all the mess we've done on the planet!
Just curious is there no way we can neutralise the Nuke stuff?

It's a colossal problem, and probably a significant target of our enemies now the word is out, that these amounts exist in storage....I have no idea what would happen if it was sealed in concrete and released in space.
I don't think it can be neutralised so easy, otherwise they would have done it long ago.

In fact I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't illegal dumping grounds around the world for this stuff, just like other toxic waste dumping that goes on. I know that our good fishing grounds in Morecambe bay don't exist any longer.

Though the cockle shells are still there I'll bet they are never tested for radioactive waste :???: though like they say, the dosage is very low so you must consume it for 40 years before your life span is reduced, humans are expendable in the long term, just like they are expendable in the military it's all a numbers game without emotion.

You can imagine what goes on at government level, it's okay lets build another 20 units, give us more power for production and those living in the areas, will only have their life reduced by 15 to 20 years, who will know they just die of natural causes like cancer, That's what it all boils down too and those voting for it, get rich with inside information of what is being planned, and what the hell, the decision makers will be dead anyway in the next 50 years, so it will not be their problem to clean up the mess that is left behind.

I was just reading that the 50 heroes left behind at the fateful Japanese plant are all unskilled workers that have never worked in the Nuclear plant, they have volunteered to try and fix the leaks OMG, not even any experience one of them is a farmer from down the road , with a facemask on but his skin is wide open to the elements yikes!

Just to add to the misery the local bank is missing $500,000. has the electronic lock on the vault malfunctioned. Can you get that much in your pockets :o  Who's seen a 1k $ bill in Singapore besides the casino

JIT in time only work if everything is running like clockwork when one end of the supply change is underwater, or the workers at the end of the conveyor belt are doing Tron impressions then it goes to the General Motors working concept of TFL (Too Fu**ing Late)

Strange all the food aid rotting you would have thought all the radiation wafting around would have preserved it. Ever notice how tomatoes stays fresh and chirpy for months in the fridge? Its been irradiated.
