Birth announcement

Post by Diana_L » Sat, 05 Mar 2011 3:46 pm

My baby is coming in a few months time, wondering if it is necessary to have a birth announcement, it is kinda meaningful. Any thoughts?

Birth announcement? Believe me, when the baby arrives, you will know it! It won't have to announce it's on it's way!

Or are you talking about something like a baby shower? Or an engraved announcement you have to mail to people after the birth? Something like a reminder so that the recipient feels they need to buy a present? :-|

Reminder of the present? Haven't think of it but it is a good suggestion.

I received one before, it is my friend's new born baby girl. She mailed the brith announcement card to friend, relatives and family. Stated the name, weight, parents name, grand parents name, the time of birth and even the hospital.

The one I receive is without the photo of my friend's baby, just a sweet pink illustration. I check out some other announcement card in the internet, some of them print the new born baby photo as well.

In Singapore, people generally have a 'party' after one month of the child birth. They are called 'full-month' celebration.

Sending birth announcement is not so common as what I know.

Full-month celebration is for Chinese.

The new born parent need to prepare 1 box of cake for each relative family.

That box of cake consist of
1. Traditional cakes and
2. eggs, dyed red to symbolise luck and blessings. Must be in even number
3. Ang ku kueh - round is for girl, sharp is for boy. Must be in even number.

more detail can refer to this

In return, the new born will receive gift, ang bao and gold jewellery
