In reply to the taxi earning of a taxi driver, it is the taxi meter system that plays a huge part. Let me explain:-

My Shift starts from 6am to 6pm.
0600-0659hrs - Normal Cab charge
( On Call Fee - $2.50 )

0700-0930hrs - Normal Cab charge + 35% of total meter fare
( On Call Fee - $3.50)

0930-1659hrs - Normal Cab charge
( On Call Fee - $2.50)

1700-2000hrs - Normal Cab Charge + 35% of total meter fare
( In CBD there is $3.00 surcharge, On Call Fee - $3.50)

2000-2359hrs - Normal Cab Charge
( In CBD - $3.00 surcharge, On Call Fee - $3.50)
0000-0559hrs - Normal Cab Charge + 50% of total meter fare.

ERP charges are borne by passenger.

I hope this could give you a clear picture.

Hi Mr taxiguy and welcome on board. Question: you don't need to pay anything back to the company for the on-call services? I was told once by a cabby that only something like $1 per goes from this to your pockets.

Yes, We have pay the Taxi company for On-Call Services. For example:
Non- peak period - $2.50, company takes $0.50 from each call.
Peak Period - $3.50 , company takes $1.00 from each call.
This only applies to Normal Taxi rate. Premium Taxi pays higher to companies.

How can I guarantee myself one of them comfy Chrysler 300M's so that I can feel like I'm Barack Obama being driven around (minus the entourage)?

On Call Cabs

Post by taxiguy » Fri, 25 Feb 2011 8:13 pm

Please donot use LTA Taxi hotline numbers cos there are hiccups.

The Taxi System here plays a great part in particularly payment.

Comfort, Citycab accepts: All Credit Cards, Comfort Cab Charge, Nets and Cash.

SMRT taxi accepts: All Credit Cards, Adult EZ Link Cards ( NO CONCESSION CARDS, and Cash.

Trans cab accepts: Some Taxis are Fix wz Credit Card N Nets. Majority only accept Cash.

Silver cab accepts: Cash Only.

SMART Cab accepts: Cash only.

Prime Cab accepts: All Credit Cards, Nets n Cash.

Some Taxi drivers refuse to take cards is because some companies takes 3 working days to return us the payment. And some companies takes 1 day working day. All Credit Cards payments has an impose charge of 10% on Total meter fare whereas Nets has $0.30 charge. SMRT EZlink has NO Extra Charge.

Please note that Taxi Companies charge us rental on daily basis and the more credit card you take that day, the more Cash you have to bank in for the taxi company to deduct.

Should you fail to have the exact payment in your bank account ( Even if you got enough money in your Credit Cards received), the taxi companies will sent you nusty messages for your taxi rental payment.

I hope this will give you an idea on why many older taxi drivers refuse card payment.

I believe i know the answer, just want to hear it from somewhere other than the ST. Never know what to believe what's printed about Malaysia.
Eau2011 wrote:I just heard from my husband.

don't drive to Malaysia with Singapore Car (number plate)
Sorry for late response, my husband was on business trip in Ho Chi Minh.

The reasons why we should not go to Malaysia with a Singapore registered car are:
- crimes are high
- corrupt policemen

It was advice from the secretary, we personally did not have bad experience. We've been there twice with Singapore registered car, once in Johor for golf, once went to Mersing (Sibu), nothing happened.
