In SG society is engineered differently. The irony is that the anointed superior class are immigrants themselves!

Do you know which country has the perfect multicultural society, people live there peacefully? Mauritius. I have been there once.

Because there were no locals, all are immigrants. The Chinese, The Creoles, the Indians and the French. Nobody can say, we are locals, you are the immigrants.

Exactly what you complained is what I heard in Holland. As X9200 said : "to large extent Dutch are probably victims of their own tolerance.", The Dutch society is tolerant, it opened its arms to all people from the world. But some of those are not tolerant to Dutch people, remembering van Gogh case?? He is killed in his own country by immigrant because he made that film. How sad!

My opinion is you can't be intolerant but hope others being tolerant. In this case I strongly support Dutch govnt to tighten their immigrantion policy.

It is a kind of government insanity to let all these immigrants in. Well not really, it was the previous UK governments policy to open the doors, knowing that immigrants given citizenship by the (Labour) government, would probably continue voting Labour in gratitude for ever after. Look at the camps of illegals in the French ports, the masses whose sole mission is to make it to the UK. Isn't France good enough for them? Don't the French pay for the equivalent of £2 million pound Kensington villas for them? Cultural suicide.

Just met my secondary school friend at a gathering, who is a taxi driver, he told me that he can average SGD 200.00 a day without sweat, after putting aside rental, diesel...etc, and he is not the boastful type.

By the way, why don't you guys find a fixed taxi, to ferry, to work and back?
If you find a "good" driver, ask for his HP number, and call him each time you need a cab.
if he is not in your area, this regular cab driver would call his friends to help out.

These guys can make the deal with you as they are their own boss.

BTW, driving to Malaysia with a SG registered car is fine, but i don't like to go to Malaysia, unless it is for work.

IIRC they pay 100-120 for the rental so lets make all the expenses like 150 a day. I do not think they get more than $S10-12 an average for a ride so ~30 rides are needed. 12h shift, say 1h break, we end up with a ride every 20 min. Unless he works on 2 shifts sounds rather tight.

What they do is pick up a second driver for the second shift, sometimes a third to try and collect fares 24 hours per day.

Yep, this is true. So it would be a bit less (only rental would get split) but still looks pretty tight.

So, in my conversations with taxi drivers, the daily expense is closer to $180, which would mean your taxi driver would need to gross $380. On an hourly basis (12 hour shift), this works out to about $32 per hour. On a straight fare basis it would be hard to make this much... for example, a half hour run to the airport nets about $20 but then there is the wait in the taxi queue for the next fare.

The additional $$ has to be made in morning and evening surcharges plus CBD surcharges. I think the $200 per day is high... I think most cabbies are in the $100 range, maybe $120.

And don't forget, rent has to be paid 7 days a week.

Ok, just called my friend up, and this is the break down....

He drives a Nissan Cedric (manual) 12 hour shift,

Rental SGD 70.00 a day
Diesel SGD 40.00
Car wash SGD 3.00 (he cleans it himself)
1/2 hour food break
Toilet break - as and when (petrol kiosk or coffee shops)
1 hour driving, he averages SGD 20.00

He normally queues at the airport or Resort world Casino (Sentosa)

Toyota Crown (manual) rental SGD 90.00 per day
Hyundai Sonata (auto) rental SGD 105.00 per day

No worries dude, i like to question as well, so i understand,
well according to his numbers, he will be able to make SGD 200.00 nett, if he drives 12 hours and averages SGD 26.00 / hour.
He does not share his taxi, so he might drive 1-2 hours more to get SGD 200.00 nett a day. He did mention that he starts work at 6 am to get the surcharge...

Hi there,

Taxi drivers work at least 12 hours per shift and always try to make the most out of each trip. My advise is always tell the taxi driver which routing you prefer to take. And Not turn left or turn right in front. This will not be fair to other road users if you want the taxi to stop suddenly.

Please Please people, there isn't any fastest route from point A to point B in singapore. Either you use the Expressway which is much longer but smoother way or the shortest way with plently of Traffic Lights.
