Re: Simlim Square - Lesson Learnt!!

Hi Guys,
I went to simlim square to buy an extra adapter for my Sony Vaio laptop. As I reached third floor from escalator, I saw this shop with few adapters hanging on the wall for display. So I approached this teenager guy sitting there to ask if he had sony vaio adapter and how much was it for. He immediately said he had and he dint even ask me the voltage or model number of my laptop. Anyway I knew I wanted 19.5V adapter, and he had it. He told me a price and I asked him if there can be any discount. He said, it’s the best price in this mall and he cannot offer any discount. As I dint have much time so I paid for it and took the invoice for the item. Thereafter, I went to 4th floor to get a VGA cable and I saw a newer version of the adapter in a shop on 4th floor. Just out of curiosity, I asked the price of adapter and to my shock, they were selling it for 30 PERCENT CHEAPER. I was really dejected and frustrated, so I went back to shop. I asked for refund of price difference or the full item return. First this guy acted so rude and then he said “life is not fair”

No it's not unexpected, at all.

Hey here's the headline...

'Shop in Sim Lim charges more than another shop in Sim Lim'

Get it?

You need to change that point of view or you will be well fleeced, in shops, hawker centres, by estate agents, and car sales men. Even seemingly normal educated middle class people will take the piss on ebay sales, they win the auction and come around saying they havent got enough cash can I reduce the price!!

Classified ads that says brand new and unopened item for sale has in fact been opened and used, with the BS they were just checking it was working.

the key in shopping in SL is to shop around. if you havent got the time, and time is money, then you will pay a higher price.

I've been reading stories like this about Sim Lim....

And for me, its a "Stay Away!" place in Singapore.

I think the rogue traders give the reliable traders a bad name. The long-established and reputable supplier (generally on the higher floors) have given me three years of computer upgrades no problem.

Bell and Fuwell are two such companies.

For the poster who said "avoid go funan" well...you'd be surprised at how many of the same dealers set up shop in both malls...you just pay more for the modern finishings.

I've got great deals at SLL, but then I've gone in knowing precisely what I want, gone shop to shop for prices, narrowed it down to a few, and then haggled.

Like common sense would suggest you might do!
