...and oust him from office to charge him, find him guilty, pardon him and then let him run again?

THUS comedians in the Philippines have compiled anecdotes and packed stand up shows impersonating our beloved presidents.

We hope to set the record in Guiness for most number of people with short term memory loss

And that's what is SO DIFFERENT here in Singapore. I know, it is not real democracy, but I do not blame it. The government and people who are holding 'higher' positions are well educated and are simply doing their job, and do that so well, that it is spoiling the society. Singapore is a wealthy place thanks to them and people are so used to having money, that a taxi driver can ignore waving passenger, or a cleaning lady does not really respect her job and will not show up for the appointment etc.

Looking at the average person here on the street, I am still sometimes shocked how well organized is this country.

Going back to the main topic - the fact that "white people" are here (also getting pissed of) is a sign of the overall 'clever attitude' of the country's management. With all due respect, most of Singaporeans will not be able to think out of the box or be creative, so they need "racists".
Actually, it is a real democracy. It is a winner take all system. Whichever party wins the majority of the vote gets all the seats. Strange, perhaps, but it is how things work.

Last election, the opposition party ran enough candidates such that, had they actually won, they would have occupied all the seats.

Can't say this is the best way, and LKY's reasoning about avoiding the ethnic and religious factionalism as is found in Malaysia, for example, is on the money.

What I meant when I wrote it is not real democracy was for example the fact that Singaporeans have to vote. You have to hang up the flag during National Day period, otherwise you may be fined etc. So, as a Singaporean one is not doing it because he/she wants, but because she/he is forced. At least to some extend, I guess.
Nevertheless, I still think the whole system works pretty well here and probably the 'forcing' is also in place because there is a reason for it.
Talking about LKY, he was not always playing fair, or treating his opponents gently, but first of all the politics is never nice, second of all, he has done great job for this country.

When he makes forecasts that turn out to be wholly inaccurate. He's good no doubt about it but he's also fallible.

Yep, but everybody is. If somebody is good this is not really a problem. It's almost like a part of the job description and in this case... I don't know, maybe it's even a part of well prepared and executed package?

There should be NO discrimination or stereotyping regardless what race or color of your skin in this board. Please moderate this kind of discussion. Thanks

thing is, he's treated like this great oracle, incapable of missing his mark. when he's good, he's really good. but when he misses, he's unapologetic about it and guess who pays for it. nobody dares to criticize him and those that did, ended being sorry for it.

those that surround him has built a divine aura around him and wait for his divine wisdom to be bestowed upon them. what if he finally croaks? these yes-men would run around unapologetic about f-ups but not make up for it with the great leadership leeky has. that's very dangerous for this country--nobody seems to have prepared a transition plan.

again, i'm not saying he should be perfect. at the very least, they prepare something for those cases where he eventually blunders. it's foolish to expect perfection when you know you can't have it.

EDIT: you let something go to your head, you tend to become complacent.

This discussion really doesn't need moderation at this point. The OP was a troll, All here (or at least 90%) recognized that from the get go. We only really feel the necessity to step in when we get an active troll, not a hit & run. This is more like a diversion from "where to live, how do I avoid NS, or Why was my PR/EP/WP/Marriage rejected" types of posts.

I also find, as long as discourse remains civil, these discussion DO serve a purpose. Additionally, trying to deny that a problem doesn't exist is just playing ostrich with their head in the sand. I did find your post rather odd considering your selection of an avatar though.

What Nakatago said is very true. If you have live here long enough, you can compare Harry to Suharto to Marcos to Mahathir. As what SMS said in another thread, this is GENETIC problem
I can give you alot of examples when things when wrong but no one dares to admit.

1. The Concourse building need to be built just because it is on the Master Plan of His Late Fenshui Master that it needs to be done. How many contractors and developer went bust constructing that?
2. The F1 was offered to Singapore in the 90s but when cold went he got advise that bad image of illegal street racing. When he saw it was a success up at Sepang, he has to bend forward to kow tow to Bernie to get the race down here. I just wonder how much he paid to get the race here
3. Micropolis ie the first fray of the Gahmen into semi con. Gone bust with millions of dollars down the drain after a few years only.
4. Suzhou Industrial Township, how he got suckered in by the CPC, basically a dead town only until recently.
The list goes on and on. When Teh Cheang Wan stole money from the HDB contract, he made his body exumed THREE TIMES so that he family can return the stolen money back to Gahmen but when he made mistake of agreeing to purchase the Boeing 777 during Sars Times. Most of landed at the US desert. Sold to Gulf Air some for bargain price just to recoup some loss. No one dare to say he made a wrong decision. He is like us bloody human
Sigh..... you have to remember he is NOT even born in Singapore !! He is a migrant from Indonesia. Now you know why he has a soft heart for those Indonesian that migrate here .

Maybe I overestimate them but I expect it is intentional. This is all about running quasi socialistic enterprise. Nobody says it is fair but at least in this unique case seems well managed (with all the given limitation including the human errors).

This is your perspective of an outsider but you are not a target here. An average Singaporean likely sees it in a different light.

EDIT: you let something go to your head, you tend to become complacent.

This is very true but this is his problem :)
