NLP, as it is know, has been around since the 70s. It isn't new at all. But it remains controversial in the mainstream social science community. It is most often encountered with private counseling and personal coaches.
However, there really is no validated empirical data supporting the effectiveness of NLP. This was more recently confirmed by the United States National Research Council. However, just as in any alternative treatment, there are those who are solid/rabid believers who won't tolerate any criticism of NLP.
Obviously, you get to decide for yourself. But you might want to do more research before you commit a lot of time or money for this. It seems common in Singapore to purchase subscriptions (for a specific number of lessons) rather than making a decision one lesson or workshop at a time. So one ends up committing to more lessons before really having an opportunity to decide if they like a particular practitioner.
