Think about recording anything form TV. From the legal point of view there is not much difference between doing it or copying something from CD. What is disallowed and strictly reinforced is making such or any records broadcasted or distributed illegally. Not making the copies.
This is for everything except computer software where typically and explicitly it is said that duplicating is not allowed.
BTW, there have been some legal actions taken against some distributing companies that claimed on their CDs/DVDs that doing certain stuff is illegal while it was not illegal at all.
