National service for permanent residents

Post by leonrobski » Fri, 18 Jun 2010 5:24 pm

hi, i would like to ask a question, and i'm not sure if it's similar to those of other members, but here goes.

My wife and i are Singaporean citizens, but my son, of age 14 years old, is an Australian citizen and holds a Singapore PR. i do not wish for him to have to attend National Service,so i am thinking of renouncing his PRship. But i am not sure whether this will make it impossible for him to get an employment pass in Singapore in the future, if a case arises that his company wants to send him to work in Singapore.

is this true?

Too late now. He will either do NS or do without Singapore in the future.

Uh, for the record, my username is NOT Japanese.

Now, back to your regularly-scheduled programming :)

To OP: you still have plenty of time to psychologically prepare your son for NS :|

Anyway what I telling you is in translated English is

"Thank you Naka san , Now I really do not know how to solve. This is very strange situation of the OP"

So you are Sger with Ozzie PR hence your son is NOT a SPR rather a Sger as compare to what you said in your earlier post , is this true ?

If he is residing in Netherlands since his sec 2, he needs to apply an exit permit when he turns 13. If he has not done that yet then he is in a real hot soup with Gahmen. He has committed an offense under Enlistment Act Cap 93 and Section 33 under the same act

As what SMS and Nakatago have pointed to you , there is not much room to negotiate as he is over 13. Moreover both of you are still Singaporean.
You need to sort this offense first with CMPB then prepare him for NS.
Chances are, you need to bring him back to answer charges if he has not applied for Exit Permit.
Having an Ozzie Citzenship and bring your child out for your overseas employment shows clear indication by the Gahmen that you are trying to outwit the system. Many have tried and failed and charged for various offense
Those who wish to stop their child from serving NS has done so with a 13 year planning the day the child was born.
I am not here to judge what you did is right or wrong but point you to the direct direction on the next course of action.
Let me know if there is anything else that I can be of any assistance

Can't people distinguish between PRs and Citizenships nowadays?

sorry for reopening this.

after doing some research, i managed to figure my initial problem out.

but now i have one more question: Will a Singapore Permanent Residency expire by itself (not by renouncing)?

To an effect, yes. MS and SMS have more details though (scattered throughout the forums).

No. But the re-entry permit will. So if you are out of the country, technically when your REP expires you lose your PR. UNLESS, HOWEVER, YOU ARE A SECOND GENERATION PR AND HAVEN'T DONE YOUR NS. Then it never expires until NS is finished even though you don't have a re-entry permit.

Your Singapore PR doesn't actually expire, it's the REP that expires and will stop you from re-entering Singapore if it expires whilst abroad.

If my guess is right, whatever you are planning to do or not to do it is doable. You have to plan it properly and watertight. I have the same question posted to me privately.
Only make sure it does not bite you or your family at the bum in later years
