International School recommendations in Singapore

Post by vealshank » Sat, 02 Jan 2010 11:58 pm

Hello folks,

We will be moving to Singapore in July this year and are looking for an excellent school for our daughter aged 7. She has been away from her home country most of her life and has experienced IB and British Curriculum schools so far (we will go back to AUS one day but don't necessarily want to send her to the Aussie schools).

We want a multi-cultural environment, lots of art, sports and extras as well as a good reputation for a balanced, well-rounded education.

Location not important as we would prefer to choose the school forst and then decide where to live from there.

Would love to here your thoughts.

Thanks in advance

Check other threads. This subject gets a lot of attention. Careful, though, as there is a lot of misinformation here. I encourage you to visit the schools and not rely just on what you hear and read here.

Thanks ladies,

We have done loads of research.Great advice Scarbowl!

Thanks to those who posted links but we have done all that - wanted more anecdotal evidence and also the opinions of parents who are happy with their chosen schools.

We really like United World College. Any feedback on this one. Our daughter will go into year 2 IB (7 years old).

Cheers and thanks

WE moved here in September and looked at a variety of schools. We settled on SJII (St josephs institution international!!!), there are a maximum of 3 classes per year group and is there is a great feeling of community. I have been very impressed by all aspects of the school, but definitely go and look at all the options.
I looked at the UNited World College (this was before the new campus on the East coast) and there was a 90 child wait list for Prep 1. Estimates were to get a place in 3 years, we would be leaving by then!!!! So definitely wait lists can play a part.

UWC is a great school as are most in Singapore. Unfortunately the waiting list at UWC dover is very long even for year 2 but you may have some luck with UWC east coast.

Vealshank - Try the East Campus. I have heard really good things about that school. I am a Dover parent but if I was in your shoes, sign her up at East ASAP. Perfect because you have not yet picked out a place to live. Can find a place between work and school. But remember that next year there will be two East Campuses - one at Tampines - Infants (K1, K2 and G1) and one at Ang Mo Kio - Grades 2-5. After that (2011) all will be at Tampines.

Good Luck
