I never thought this would be one of the perks of living at UE Square... :)

I reckon that the government doesn't worry about media rich content being a heavy draw for you all using UE Support Services Ltd. I might be wrong (or should I say the IP tracking software might be wrong), but it indicates that you are on dialup so the gahmen might not worry too much about downloading to much of that kind of stuff.

My connection feels like a dial-up so maybe it is true. :)

Interesting that I have Starhub TV but yet they decided to wire up all the apartments with some weird internet connection...

Actually quite a few companies in Singapore have leased lines and therefore are not controlled by IDA.

Hello, kids,

Just an update. Google is negotiating with the NSA to let the NSA analyze the alleged Chinese attacks so that they will not happen again. While such security is part of NSA's mandate, this is also the same government agency known to allegedly spy on millions of American lives. Privacy advocates are worried but a lot also believe that NSA could get access to Google's information even without their consent anyway if they wanted to.

Of course, you all know how tense things already are between US and China.

Having known somebody high up rather closely within the NSA structure, I could almost believe that NSA already has been monitoring this. Google - NSA might want to make a public show of it though for it's own reasons.

(My former FiL was a GS18 with NSA until his retirement (worked at Menwith Hill for many years). After the weekend he returned to work as a double-dipping consultant in the exact same position!

Well this topic certainly became flagged the moment someone mentioned MH. ;)

As SMS mentioned, the NSA would have been on to this from the very outset. They certainly have all the data, but today that is the easy part. It's what you do with it and your capability to sift through and analyze massive amounts of information that makes this agency work.

Yeah, it was a biatch staying in contact with her in the early days before we got married as her father was required to change the home phone number every month or two. (no mobil/cell phones in those days).

Anybody know if the fence huggers are still camped out around MH in protest?

Apparently back in the day some hippie freaks stormed the complex and stole the "dictionary." Hard to believe that this would be just laying around in printed form though, so maybe it's just a myth. :)

Forget China and Google, I want to more about this UE thing, I live close to there and want to find a way to get around Hulu, etc. overseas restrictions and I've never got around to figure out setting up Onion.

Hi, kids,

Further updates. As major media outlets already reported, Google China finally dropped the other foot and stopped censoring. Citing the Chinese governments unwillingness to ease up on censorship, google.cn now redirects to google.com.hk where the rules are not so autocratic. Certain search queries from the mainland however are censored. Google is well aware that Beijing may decide to block google.com.hk altogether but everybody's just on standby.

In other news, Google responded to the Australian government solicitation for comments on the would-be mandated ISP filters. Google says that it goes way too far and may perhaps not stop on porn and may also eventually block politics and criticism. In other words, what's stopping them from doing a Beijing on oz. More here.

And following in Google's footsteps, global domain registrar GoDaddy has now decided to stop providing .cn addresses. Citing their begrudgingly compliance to give Chinese authorities ID's of clients, GoDaddy said they no longer to be agents of Beijing. Complete story here.

Of course, comments both for and against such moves are all over the internet. These range from appreciative, elated, congratulatory to pragmatic, stern and cynical. (I ran out of adjectives)

My stand? Isn't it obvious yet?
