Windows 7 So far so good

Postby QRM » Sun, 25 Oct 2009 8:31 pm

Just loaded up windows 7 upgrade version, took about an hour mind you theres three 1Tb drives on this machine.

Apart from Kaperski anti virus requiring to be uninstalled, and manually reinstalled. Which in fairness was highlighted by the downloadable Windows 7 check.

All Honki Dori...

...and there was much rejoicing, after that debacle that was vista. the only really negative thing said about win 7 is that the advertised number of editions is just confusing.

too bad though, I didn't get a 77 SGD copy. maybe when SP1 arrives :D

WHAT?!? But, but I was there Wednesday evening...all the email Challenger sent said was reduced prices, nothing about a free shirt and router.

Everybody likes free stuff, right :(

Maybe I should've fallen in line too, huh? :o Oh well, Karmic Koala's being released this Thursday.

the vista kernel itself is good...

...it's all the crud that they required on top of it which bogs things down and eats resources that really made for a bad user experience. UAC, for example. AND windows defender. And the gajillion processes that Vista runs.

Glad to hear that windows 7 is living up to the hype. I'm confused - Vista min memory requirements is 1gb (although you need at least 1.5 to make it work at any speed). W7 is 2gb. Is this just getting the facts straight - because all I've heard is that W7 is far better than Vista and gets rid of the unnecessary stuff.
Not a techie, so would appreciate your thoughts.

According to: http://windows.microsoft.com/systemrequirements, 1 GB of RAM should be fine. The 2 GB is recommended or for 64-bit systems.

Makes sense because they wanted netbooks to run win7 so they had to support only 1 GB RAM systems. Also, if you don't run stuff like Aero or all that fancy stuff, your system, low end as it may be, should be fine.

BTW, Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala comes out tomorrow. Here's one piece of software you can torrent legally! :P
