win 7 effect on netbook pricing

Post by nakatago » Tue, 20 Oct 2009 2:21 pm

I just want to know how people feel about this:

* MS says Win7 will run on netbooks
* Manufacturers will offer netbooks running Win7
* How will this effect to price of upcoming and current netbooks?

My google-fu says it may drive prices up since MS only charges OEMS 15 USD for XP and Win7 will be much more expensive. However, some believe that current stocks will drop in prices to clear inventories.

Personally, I want prices to go down so I can buy an XP netbook (non-windows netbooks are near non-existent in spore), get rid of XP and install my non-MS OS of choice. I don't want to pay the windows tax.

What do you think? I just want to know how people think about it.

although netbook CPUs are getting faster, they are still no match for the standard laptops.

slow CPU + vista or windows7 = not going to be very fast

the whole concept of netbook is not to run microsoft OS but to run a lightweight linux for speed. have a look for splashtop (or express gate for asus).

I agree but tell that to the masses who, when netbooks first came out, bought netbooks on a whim and returned them because they didn't run windoze and to the people who sell stuff to these people. You ask the stores if they have netbooks that DON'T have windows and they'll look at you as if you asked them for casual sex.

same when vista first came out. microsoft was pushing manufacturer to install vista, even on celeron CPUs and with 512mb of RAM. yes, vista will run, but run like a dog!

it's the same with sony. they moved all their computers to vista as their corp standard, and yes, some vaio were running like a dog too!

I heard about him before.

You're preaching to the choir.

Ya think, anyone can pull that off here? Mebbe if I complain loud enough to the gahmen, lah...

I do think the same

I do think the same but in a blog called Gadget lab... are saying that "For Netbooks, Windows 7 and Chrome Make a Perfect Match and result is a surprisingly pleasant combination for browsing, working in GMail and Google Docs, and other lightweight tasks...
So I think guys who don't do that much heavy works could easily go for netbook operated with OS win7...
But I do think that pricing will definitely affect much on users if bundled with windows7...
