I think your friend can file a civil suit against the person if there's evidence, injury etc. Not sure what the cops would do, though its kinda the same situation overseas as well. Stuff like that goes on all the time worldwide, just gotta deal with it...

Your friend is experiencing racism just like Asians that move to western countries experience. It's part of life and the best thing to do is take the higher ground and ignore the ignorant shit.
I was born in Austrlia by Greek parents. I got picked, bullied and sometimes beat up for being a wog nearly every day of my school life. It wasn't fun but you learn to cope. We had a neighbour while I was growing up who would shout racial abuse over the fence, this wnet on for 30 years until she died of old age.
Twice in the last year I have had local Singaporeans cover there noses as I have walked pass them with my children in their pram. What can you do there are lots of dumb people in the world taking legal action isn't going to change their views. In the end Karma catches up to all of us.

You will love this one then! Prince Charles in the News and Harry for racist remarks.

Although I think racism may be when the other person feels offended, I have seen all sort's in the army, and i can tell you I get offended, when i hear people using words in a racist manner, Charles isn't that bad of a guy actually, a bit pompous and probably racist against everyone, I mean he can hardly be normal right, if he's never been to the pub! And Sooty God bless him, what can he say really, I mean I might get away with telling Charlie boy to respect me, but Sooty would lose his friendship, because Charlie couldn't be funny in front of his friends anymore.

I think it's something to do with genetics and evolution, I mean people that flip out over colour and race are pretty low down in the primitive ignorance league, that piss on their own doorsteps, to mark their territory  It takes quite a few generations to eradicate the bad gene's through evolution.

And you have those that are so superior, that have committed more crimes of raping the Countries wealth around the world, and executing people, if they said the wrong word, inherited wealth, with a right to what a throne! Charles can have my throne, for just a tenth of his wealth!

 :P Although what would a commoner like me, do with his wealth!
I had visions of being a Robin Hood in my years growing up in poverty, and the thought that we had no Sherwood Forest in Lancaster, really put me off, robbing the banks , although it was much easier in those days.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sherwood_Forest

The real turn off was the Lancaster dungeons, and hangmans corner, my imagination was my worst nightmare.

http://www.lancastercastle.com/

Lancaster was a City trading slaves, much the same today, only they are all colours, that work for peanuts, the devastation of industry wiped away in the late 50's and 60's this is a City worth visiting, although cautious walking out at night, it has a reputation for muggins, the occassional muder, gangs, and even race hate. although it is a very small City, with demarkations dating back in history.

Which are prevailent still today, with the Asians in one area, due to a more wealthy ability to purchase the old victorian properties of 3 story high houses, which locals could hardly afford, because the locals were in the pub everyday, and the Asians were making the money.

It's quite a very interesting history, and our family would be abused verbally because we socialised with everyone, and invited Asians to our home. So i have first hand knowledge of what it's all about, and it's a credit to this poster sim1310 to say there are dumb people out there and except it, for what it is, because Karma does catch up in my opinion too.

First Harry wears a nazi swastika, and then he uses stupid racist terms. Just goes to show what kinda idiot he is, and I get the distinct feeling the British army can be pretty racist, except that they keep it under covers. This reminds me of a guy from Blues and Royals who was telling me (with some pride) how he and his mates drove away a black guy who was training in a seperate previous unit, they would taunt him everyday, and when everyone was issued rifles, they deliberately humiliated him by making him carry a broomstick while making racist jokes at him. He left the unit eventually, and this guy was sooooooo proud and happy with what he did. I guess the old colonial mentality doesn't die easily... :?

I agree there are quite a few racists in the army and police force, although it no different than any other Country. Colonial mentality wont die at all, if all the aristocrats have their way, and they will. It doesn't worry me that the human race has a class distinction, variety is the spice of life, and it would be damn boring if everyone was the same.

So, did Sangeetha have the offender flogged or did she run back to India where there is no racism/caste-sim/religious hatred?

Well, its changing a lot in the UK now, and I think the aristocrats will die out soon thanks to heavier taxes, public anger over the MP allowance abuse, and with Obama leading the way towards racial integration. Besides, if there're more Lord Ahmads in Peers (nevermind them using their mobiles prior to an accident!), things will only get better. Its the US and the GOP that I am more wary of

A mere condo resident telling you to go back to your home country warrants filing a police report? Wow... I guess I better watch my mouth once I get to ole Singapore. Especially if telling someone to go back to their home country will get blood boiling lol :D

Yeah, it's old. I realized it after I posted. Some of these old threads could use a little waking up. They are much more interesting than the recents.

Yeah, wake it up!

I come from Melbourne, Australia and I feel that racism is a relatively rare there. Travel to another state capital though and you may be in for a rude surprise.

I guess it comes down to how much 'Calm and Chill' juice they put in the water.
