Can anyone please tell me the definition of "common-law spouse"??
I understand you need "A letter from the EP holder's embassy confirming the status of his/her common-law marriage to the applicant in their country" when applying for LTVP.
But how can you get one if "common-law spouse" doesnt exist in the EP holder's country like UK?
If anyone has done it, can you please advise how??
Its a strange one and i dont know how to get around it
any advise would be appreciated.

Apparently, while the British Consulate no longer issues them there are other methods as you will see from the above threads (the earliest is first).

If she was here on a work permit, she could possibly really open up a can of worms that will be unsurmountable should you eventually decide to get married (she needs to have "Permission" from MOM in order to get married if she "EVER" worked on a work permit here (regardless of how long ago it was). There are a couple of threads on here about that as well.

Thanks SMS i have read through the posts on this but still confused, it was more towards singaporeans and pr's that need the permission not employment pass holders. ( I do undersand it could be a grey area though)
I guess its chance our luck at MOM and see what happens on the LTSVP,
reading one of the posts did your nephew ever get his wife and child sorted out.

FYI,
I applied yesterday and we got approval today fo a 6 month LTSVP, no problems at all.
I did it through the company and did not need to provide any letters stating our Common Law status, (only thing i need to do is get the company to sign the declaration) which is not a problem.
THanks for your advise, much appreciated, I hope all goes well with your case.

Congrats, I hope things work out for the two of you. Just keep in mind, if you decided to tie the knot, you will need approval from MOM first, otherwise you might get her permanently kicked out of Singapore.

Personally I think this is BS. CPF is savings scheme and not a pension. This is a bad outcome for Singaporeans etc who migrated to NZ.
