I'v been to The Central (Clarke Quay) and I find that this Japanese restaurant by the river called The Sun serves very nice Japanese food, sashimi included.

There's another mall in CQ called Lot 1 that is full of authentic Japanese restaurants, you could give it a try. I would think the food there is authentic as the chefs are authentic, and there is a condo full of Jap expats living nearby. They frequent this mall and its restaurants.

Hi I'm new on here ... was taken to a brilliant restaurant which used to be at the Japanese embassy, but has since moved to sentosa somewhere I'm told ... lots of Japanese executives when I was there last, I think 'pregnant fish' was on the menu???

Odds are you mean Nogawa:

Ridiculously expensive, of course.

Re: the Central, there are quite a few good Japanese places in there. Santouka's ramen is great, Marutama Ramen also has its fans, Wakashachiya specializes in curry udon (not cheap though)... pricewise, though, the aforementioned Kyomomoyama tends to get my custom, especially at lunchtime.

I know of one good Japanese restaurant (I think it is called Minori) which offer buffet at UE Square. They open from 6pm onwards.

Located at 3rd floor on UE Square, right beside a KTV Pub named Rain.. Per PAX should be around SGD$40++

Add Mimigar to the list of great Japanese (or, in this case, Okinawan) restaurants:

Checked out Tsubohachi at Iluma in Bugis the other day. It's Japanese's largest izakaya chain, but somewhat disappointingly, the branch here doesn't feel like an izakaya at all (private rooms/sections, tatami mats, etc), just like any other Japanese restaurant. The food is quite good though, you can order from any of the half-dozen joints in the same "Ebisbashi" complex, and we were showered with coupons worth almost half our order!

Marusui Fish Market in the basement of Vivocity has excellent fish, but the readymade sushi and don for eating on site are kept too cold, turning the rice into a gluey mass. Not a bad option for rolling your own though.

Up next, Ootoya at Orchard Central! Supposedly opened yesterday.
