hi guys, i just came back to sg recently and i'm thinking of starting a business here, i used to be in the massage industry in usa. We service the bay area in california for 5 years, and specialised in swedish, deep tissue, tui na and accupressure massage. I was wondering how is the market here in singapore and business location for recommendation.
It will be greatly appreciated if you all can contribute to the views. thanks
i want it, i have it!~

Yeah, and you would be in direct competition with PRC study mama's who would teach you a thing or two about finishing off the sessions.

Choco, have a walk around town or the suburbs. Spas offering massages are everywhere. Location is not the main problem now, it's timing. Singapore is in recession mode and people cut back on luxuries like spas. It's a highly competitive industry - I'm starting to get calls from spas to market their services the way the banks do, and that's never happened until recently so business doesn't seem too good now.
Still, if you can find a niche and think you can stay afloat for a couple of years while the going is slow, you may have a chance. Good luck!

Opening a massage business here would be similar to opening a taco stand in the Bay area. You're competing with several hundred other businesses that will do it cheaper and offer services you won't.
I guess you might be able to carve out a niche business in the expat community. Look at the therapeutic ads in Singapore Craigslist to give you an idea.

It is almost like the Bubble Tea thing a couple of years ago. You will have several lined up together and nobody making any money until you go out of business. It's already like that in some areas that I've noticed. You will really need a 'gimmick' to survive.
