I got the same translation passage as shenoes. Yeah, they are very professional. I was one of the first to get my head chopped off. As what was mentioned, the other candidate who was in the same room as me was distracting for me and my interviewer noticed and she understand I was distracted and I can't concentrate!! HAHA..she even hand signal to them to lower down volume.

Anyway, the interviewer is superb nice. She didn't converse with me in mandarin. But I just can't do the translation, I only did the first sentence and I told her, sorry I can't. But she told me : That's ok, at least you tried :)

Well, she was writing so many things on her side but I just do not know what she wrote. I can't make it cos I believe they want sg based crews with a strong level of Languages. All the best to those who are going!! All yes, Keep smiling all the way...

hmm but before i start reading the chin passage, the interviewer did say that if i duno how to pronounce the word, can use another same meaning word to replace it. if reali cant think of it, then skip the word. but seriously, at that pt of nervous time, my mind all went blank.. kua kua kua..

I swear it's going to be like my O levels - where they say 'dunno, just skip'. I'm going to end up sounding like some broken record. hahah

I just came back from my interview. The cabin crews are super polite and the interviewer is rather friendly. She will try to break the ice by asking you is this the first time u apply, what other airlines have you apply and what is the difference between the other airlines and BA.

Then she will give me a passage to read. I think the passage reading was okay. It's extracted out from Newspaper i think. Mine it's about Clean & Green Week at Marina Barrage.

The translation portion was tough, i couldn't catch some of the sentence and when translated to chinese, the whole Public Annoucement became so much shorter. I couldn't translate "Locker". Damn.. Anyway both of us were laughing all the way cos i sucks at it.. Haha. Great experience~

Well, I sure 'bombed' the interview! Was given a passage to read about the new casino & I 'swallowed' so many words it didn't make sense!

Translation wise was slightly better but oh well - what ever I scribbled on the notepad sure was a mess (interviewer said they won't grade it...)

Well yes since all the registry and document checks are done by their own CC, they are much warmer and smiley. SQ always has hired agency staff - so they're not really bothered about being nice.

Hope someone gets the call to go 2nd round! By the 20th December right?
I am actually hoping I don't get called - as I am SO going to fail the Chinese writing & maths test

muahahaha!! bua ta han ley all of us!! I think this is the funniest airline interview i've ever been to and ever heard from all the ppl here who went for it. :D :D :D

Well, at least if i din pass, I fully understand the reason why and definitely they are looking for wat they have stated in the newspaper. Language is very important for them. even if i failed, this is a great experience for me and I am not sad or dissapointed or have any regrets cos BA is reali up to standard :)
and of cos, knowing why I fail makes things better for me. not like SQ, keep wondering why cant i pass this and that stage and keep figuring out wat they reali want.

btw, anyone who received the call for the 2nd interview, share share k? i heard that 2nd interview'd chin translation will be more difficult.

Hi Mintia

I too got the casino passage - it talks about the Genting resort right

i keep finding myself tongue tied, when in fact i knew how 2 read those words!! oh man, wasted.. coz i was abit nervous.. even for the english passage, i couldnt pronounce "descendency".. haiz hope all will turn out right in the end.. as for translation, i got the menu announcement.. which sounded forever with 1) food, 2) drinks, 3) coffee/tea 4) duty free goods 5) no smoking reminder 6) if unsure, check with us... my own version? only 3 out of the 6 points that was read...hahaha

Hi hi! :)

Just to share my experience :) The registration process was smooth and no-nonsense like certain crowded walk-in's where you queue from am to pm *opps*

My English passage was about some Queen Victoria's event and my Chinese passage, on economy stuff like what shenoes said. Haha now i can't even remember what i read anymore. My translation was the same as shenoes, a short one, no complicated technical terms.

My interviewer was very sincere and i could feel that generally the smiles from around me were genuine (well at least i felt that way, would be great to feel like this as a pax too). Professionalism - full marks, event management - full marks. Given the non-competitive atmosphere and sincere conversations, one probably won't fall prey to being a bag of nerves and tongue-tiedness as easily as in other interviews where you feel like you're surrounded by people who can't wait to outdo & outshine you. *double opps*

To other readers: I'd love to read about your experience - please share your thoughts if you had went too! :)
