Finally, I made it through all the rounds of the SIA recruitment drive held on 23 Nov'08. I have tried applying for the cabin crew position since the beginning of the year. I took every chance to go for every SIA interview, be it write-in or walk-in. Each time, I went home with failure and disappointment. Initially, I couldn't take the blow especially when I failed my management round. It was just so close.

I took quite some time to get over the issue and encouraged myself to try again. I have experience in failing every round at least once before. After each defeat, I just tell myself that it's okay. I can try again the next time. In fact, this november recruitment was my last opportunity to try as I intended to further my studies in January 2009 should I fail this time round again.

To my pleasant surprise, I managed to make it through all the 4 rounds! Now left my last hurdle, the medical round. So, my advice to cabin crew wannabes is not to give up. Perservance is the word.

In addition, you may do some research over here. As mentioned by many other forumers, there is a lot of 'treasure' in this thread. You may browse through pages from December 2007 onwards. There are lots of active forumers providing tips and advices then. All those information did help me very much to understand the 4 rounds of interview better.
Perseverance is the word.

Haha hey bro, yeah had heard from Rubin. Call me anytime yeah, always welcomed. Of course I know not to worry, I'm sure you'll be alright second time round. It was your first time too no? You did well regardless man, persevere like lilturtle said, you were real close. Anyway, when you do get it, seems this forum would be your best bet in finding an apartment and housemates too from what I've seen so far. All the best and keep in touch!

Btw I realised the word 'address' isn't exactly that specific because it could loosely mean to greet or acknowledge as well. What I mean by it is to face the interviewers square on at all times and maintain eye contact with them.

e.g. In my 1st interview, one of the candidates on the far end actually greeted interviewers and candidates alike. What he did that i thought was wrong was to not change his standing position at 45 degrees after greeting everyone to face the interviewers. It basically gave the interviewers a 30 second profile shot even when they asked him to start, expecting his full attention. It comes across very unprofessional. Imagine walking into a plane with the steward greeting passengers at the door while looking and facing the cockpit. Interviewers don't want half of your attention. They want your full attention. Anyway, hope that helps!

as with everything, you need to practice. imagine possible questions (especially problems or concerns in your resume) that the interview might ask about then prepare your answers. ask a friend to ask you these questions and then deliver your answers casually, without appearing as if you memorized them. be honest with your weaknesses and explain how you are addressing them rather than fudging.

before proceeding to the interview, spend some time relaxing. look at yourself in the mirror to make sure you are properly groomed. then walk around to burn your nervous energy. be in the interview at least 15 minutes before your schedule.

as the interview ends, don't forget to thank the interview and express your desire to work with them.

in addition to what moto has suggested, you can also try to practise answering the possible questions and your self-introduction in front of the mirror. in this way, you are able to observe your body language as you speak and how your smile look like.

and, maybe u can take a deep breath before you introduce yourself in the 1st round. And, smile and make eye contact with the interviewers.

After flying for about 2 months, I would say it's an easy job once you're more familiar with how things run. Anyway, zapping is really minimal and easy to ignore(IMO). And even with the economic downturn, the pax load for the recent flights I had was still rather strong so I suppose SIA will not stop hiring crew yet.

Good luck people and smile! I finally understand why the interviewers are so intent on getting crew who smiles a lot - cause you gotta smile all the time onboard. And trust me, it's a fantastic job being able to travel all around the world and the money is really good(3.5k is for months where you don't have many long flights so basically that's the minimum you'll get per month).

Just my 2 cent's worth. ;)
