Anyone tried this med called CHAMPIX to quit smoking?

Post by aneles » Thu, 20 Nov 2008 7:21 pm

I was prescribed with this med by my GP.

Its my 4th day & I feel tormented - I am feeling anxious (heart palpitations), shaky hands, dry mouth & tummy feels weird (like acidic, churning, abit pain like gastric).

Nausea is supposed to be one of the key symptoms after taking this med that will deter you from smoking - hvnt felt them yet but not sure if i will get it soon.

Anyone here taking this med - would love to hear pple's feedback too.

Never tried nicotine patch?

Is your addiction bad? Dentists can also offer smoking cessation programmes ... you spoken to a dentist yet?

My friend went through this counseling session with the dentist .... and managed to kick the habit!

Not every dentist does smoking cessation ..... got to find the right one.

Cheers

My husband was prescribed Quinox to quit smoking and it worked – both times. It helped alleviate the anxiety that comes with nicotine withdrawal plus more. He said no symptoms except for dry mouth and felt sick after having a cigarette while on the med. Hope this helps.

Obviously it didn't work if he's had to use it twice. #-o ](*,)

My husband took up smoking again after kicking the habit for 3 years. He successfully kicked the habit again.

Sorry, but I beg to differ. He stopped smoking for three years. He didn't "QUIT". Had he quit he wouldn't have started again. Simple analogy of driving a car.

He pulls up to a stop sign and he'll stay there as long as it's necessary, but he will start going again eventually. But if he pulls out the ignition keys and throws them away, he's QUIT. This I know.

I stopped smoking some 24 years ago and didn't have a cigarette for 2 years. I got laid up for a couple of weeks with a very bad gout flareup and after two weeks I lit up and it was 10 years before I decided to QUIT. Actually it was 25 years ago now as I quit in 2004.

I laid them down one Sunday afternoon after crushing half a pack of smokes and said I don't need this. That was it. Cold Turkey but I had quit in my mind before I stubbed out the last one. I didn't quit for my family, my children, my relatives, my wife or or the government. I quit because I'd decided I'd had enough. That was after smoking for 37 years every thing from inhaling a pipe (10 years) cigars and up to 3~4 packs of ciggies a day (only for a 4-5 month period during a divorce and whiskey bender). It's been 12 years now since I've had a cigarette. I've never had any urge to relight one and while I'm not a "born again non-smoker" I don't tend to inhabit places that are smokey. In fact, I can no longer see how any woman would want to be with a man or vice verse as it really smells bad. And as several members of this forum can attest, they've seen me a good 4 sheets to the wind and never even get close to a cigarette. Absolutely no desire today. The only thing that saddens me is the small fortune that went up in smoke! :-/

I quit smoking with champix.
It's been 3 years now.
Btw, I tried everything beforehand and nothing worked. Nicotine patches were the worst. The movie of Alan Carr was good enough to make me stop smoking for a month only. (But 2 of my friends quit smoking with that movie and book.)

Ever heard of - using a German Technology called Bioresonance Therapy to quit smoking. The treatment helps to remove the urge to smoke without having to suffer cold turkey. :)

I took something called Zyban which acts similarly to Champix apparently. It made me feel strange and depressed. So much so that I preferred to deal with the hell of giving up smoking without it. One of the hardest things I've ever done (I still love the smell of cigarette smoke decades later).

Yup, haven't put a cigarette in my mouth for 20+ years. But if I ever get a terminal disease I'm starting up right away.

Yep, me too, same way. Dec 2004. After a 37 year habit of which 10 were inhaling a pipe.
