SQ gals

Post by GreenTee » Mon, 11 Aug 2008 8:19 pm

To all SIA cabin crew:
If you girls don't mind sharing your experience, I have some questions for you:
- how do you handle missing family while away?
- is the pay including allowances really $3500?
- do you share hotel rooms or sleep alone?
- do you think your aging is accelerated due to the dry cabin air?
- how long are your breaks during flight?
- is it true that cc have to clean toilets? In your uniforms?
Thank you for your responses!

- is the pay including allowances really $3500? * Yes.

- do you share hotel rooms or sleep alone? * Sleep alone

- do you think your aging is accelerated due to the dry cabin air? * Yes, you will have to take good care of your skin.

- how long are your breaks during flight? 7 days long haul will get 3 days off, short haul 1 to 2 days. Link flight will not have off after a short flight

- is it true that cc have to clean toilets? In your uniforms? * yes, this is part of your job scope.

Thank you for your responses!

TRY!

Post by rabbitsonviagra » Mon, 11 Aug 2008 10:19 pm

Hey people! Actually this time of the year they are doing MASS recruitment so it will be easier to get in. They need people so I guess they are not as fussy as usual. Do try try try and try. But do think of the many considerations first. :)

Training is pretty fun though tiring. Mon-Sat, 8:30 - 5:30. :(

Good luck! :D

Hi Lovely Shan

How then do you take care of your skin to prevent accelerated aging due to the dry cabin air?

How many hours do you have to fly per month?

How many days will you be away from Singapore?

Do we have the right to determine whether we want to fly or not?

Will there be a chance that the pay including allowances be less than $3500?

How much on average will be spent overseas? What are the expenditures besides food?

Thank you in advance! :D

Dont quite agree. It only applies earlier this year between January - March/April period that they are quite easier to get in. (passing rates from 8-10/10)

At the past few months, they are still quite strict (passing rates from 1-2/10)

How then do you take care of your skin to prevent accelerated aging due to the dry cabin air? * for me i will apply alot of moisturizer on my body and also apply good moisturizer foundation to keep my face moist during the flight and also keep doing mask when in the hotel to maintain my skin.

How many hours do you have to fly per month? * I did not reaaly count coz will not have the time to count how many hours , as long as there is a flight i just go.

How many days will you be away from Singapore? * as from what i know kinda have ard 10 days average depends.

Do we have the right to determine whether we want to fly or not? * after your probation of 6 mths, you can change your flight away for off days or giveaway flights provided other fss wants to change with you. But as rem, you give away your flight = no income.

Will there be a chance that the pay including allowances be less than $3500? * if you dont give away flights as do as what is rostered to you, will not be lower than that. Even it is, co. will be very fair to give you good flights the following mths.

How much on average will be spent overseas? What are the expenditures besides food? * it depends on how you spend for each individual. besides food, sight seeing expenses, shopping expenses will be incurred. it really depends on yourself.

Thank you in advance! :D
hi,

I managed to pass my management today from 5th aug's interview. 6 of us spilled over from 5th aug to today's final round and all of us passed :) I've tried a few times before succeeding so to those out there who failed: do not despair and try again!

Here's to share my experience. I'm sure all these are repeated over and over again across pages but well, treat this as an updated one then lol

1st round: self intro. Might be good to say something interesting to catch their attention but i didn't really. Just gave a simple self intro. But make sure you engage them in terms of smiles, body language and eye contact. And good english too. Passing rate 3/9

2nd round: kebaya + skin check. The procedure for write-ins is really much simpler than walk-ins. This was my weakness previously, but maybe passing rate was higher cos all 3 of us got through.

3rd round: 1-1 interview. The interviewer was very friendly, and she mostly asked about my current job, why i wanna join SQ, other very generic questions plus some scenario questions. Then read a simple passage. The toughest part is probably the scenario questions but as long as you know something about customer service, you should be fine. And smile! Passing rate: 1/3

4th round: management interview. Much like the 3rd round, only with more questions. They can ask you anything under the sun eg. your job, family, future plans. Basically they just want to get to know you better so try your best to upsell! For example if they said you are on the heavy side, don't just blush and smile. Say you're currently doing something about it. If they say you look weak, tell them you've been going to the gym. Not asking you to lie but.... say something useful at least. Passing rate: 1/1 :P

Overall, in my opinion, what they wanna see is the warmth and friendliness in your personality, your maturity, seriousness and understanding in the job. This job is definitely not 'glam', let them know you understand that. Apart from that, the superficial requirements would surely be good skin, good posture, good grooming. Carry yourself well, speak good english, speak with confidence and smile lots :) You might wanna go for Luke's talk but the wealth of knowledge and advice is also all among these pages :)

Good luck! Feel free to PM me any questions :)
hie, congrats in making all the way. I just want to enquire, what exactly will they be looking out during the kebaya round-apart from the skin checks and all. Will they scrutinize the way you walk? or even if you look like the proto-type singapore girl in the kebaya? do they require girls with perfect straight teeth? ( I went for the write-in interview, and kana booted at the kebaya round. i dont know what went wrong. otherwise I would have improved on my next try. -stress-

the other thing i want to clarify is, how long did you have to wait after your med check up before you were asked to go for the pre-employment briefing?

all in all, did it take 2s weeks or so from your first round till they get back to you on your confirmation of employment?

hope to hear your reply soon! thank you for the time.

yes they will look at the way you walk, so make sure you carry yourself well. i guess you don't have to have perfectly straight teeth but has to look good nevertheless. but i have a feeling that smiling and looking friendly is most important provided you already look presentable.

my 1st - 3rd round: 5th august
final + medical: 7th august
more medical: 8th august
received call: 12 august

so it took only 1 week :)

by the way i start on 26th august!! any batchmates??

Hi Lovely Shan,

If you are away from Singapore for around 10 days, then what happen to the other 20 days? Does it mean that you only work around 10 days per month?

If you moisturize your hands, won't your hands be too slippery to hold the wine glass?

Does $3500 include employee's CPF?

Is the training physically demanding?

Can cabin crew wear spectacles?

Does SIA provide the cosmetics and and all the required nail polish chemicals for you or do you have to purchase your own?

Will your nails be damaged by the prolonged usage of nail polish?

Will anything happen to your face due to the prolonged usage of thick make-up?

What do the most of the air stewardess usually do when they are oveseas? shopping or sight-seeing?

Thank you in advance! :D
