Seems I was referring to the same report don't know quite why I was thinking of a different incident, still no harm done.

fyi - couldn't help but comment, QANTAS has no "U" in it. It's an acronym, much like SIA, JAL, etc just a little longer!

Qantas is one of the last remaining airlines NEVER to have lost a passenger in its history.

This particular plane is 17-yrs old and with age comes problems.

errrmmmm...untrue

And before we all start making some blatant assumptions, I'd suggest we wait until the official investigators finish their work. We had a friend of ours staying with us this weekend - heads up regional transport safety - and they have had to fly to Manila. They just left.

For those in the know, we normally wait until the findings are done by the professionals, rather than speculate.

And before you flame me, yes, I am ex tech crew (not QF).

hi plavt....u are right...refer to United Air Lines not United Airlines...

check out my link.....it's a database of all aircraft incidents dating back to early 1900s... quite scary actually to read through all those incidents reports....

In that case...9 ppl got sucked out and lost at sea....due to decomp resulting from blown off forward cargo door....

Not quite true, they have never had a fatality in a PASSENGER JET accident. Lots of near misses though, this being one of them.

Not to mention 27 seriously injured after QF001 overran at BKK...but we'll just ignore that fact, shall we? Along with the wife of the F/O being on the deck at the time where the J class passengers heard a female scream "Oh...F***K, do something".

Good work QRM - Impressive list - I actually thought Argentinuis Anallingus lost a DC-9 years ago??? Alas I am mistaken.

Again, friends, lets leave it to the experts before we sit there and make assumptions.

As ex tech crew, my only complaint with QF is the inability to redeem my 750,000 odd frequent flyer points! Oh, and the service. Oh, and the crappy aircraft. Oh, and the crap schedules. Oh, and the crap food. Even in F and J class. Oh, did I mention the general snotty nosed F/A's?

No wonder we prefer SQ and CX.

You may or may not have seen my earlier posting; I am told Qantas had a serious accident in the 1930's but there were no incidents since*. However, I do not have enough information to be sure. Maybe Saint can help with that one. :-k

* Could that have been a cargo plane and could it have been before the airline was known as Qantas? I have no idea.

The relevant point; when TWA800 crashed, CNN spent all day immediately afterwards either speculating or creating numerous speculations yet most if not all investigations take months to complete.

Not that I dont want to take credit for a somewhat incorrect statement but I think you will find it was scoobyD that made that assumption.

Qantas had plenty of pre-jet fatalities

Not quite sure about that list because i seem to remember accidents for both Britannia, Monarch and maybe Hainan as well. Although seeing the list again, it also mentions PanAm :shock:

Oh, and a near miss is a near miss....... not the real thing ;)

I think you may have misunderstood me, my original posting (about the fourth one down and prior to anything that ScoobyD says) says much the same thing and as I said I don't have enough information to know whether or not it is true. No doubt you have already noticed the list you quote doesn't have anything earlier than the fifties. In that era investigating bodies might not have existed in the form they do today.
