Looking for Stainless Steel water bottles

Post by concernedmom » Fri, 21 Dec 2007 5:04 pm

Looking in vain for stainless steel water bottles for my kids who are going into school next year.

Why? Plastic bottles increases exposure to BPA (Biphenol A) in the womb raises the risk of certain cancers, hampers fertility and could contribute to childhood behavioral problems such as hyperactivity.

Where can I find such bottles in Singapore? Anyone can help?

Many years ago at the UCLA Berkeley campus in Calif. 2 cancer researchers did a government funded study (don't ask) an found out that old 10¢ coins caused stomach cancer. They surgically implanted a Liberty head 10¢ in the stomach of 100 rats and kept 100 rats without for controls. A significant number of the rats with coins in their stomach got stomach cancer. Therefore swallowing US 10¢ coins can cause stomach cancer. Heavens! Alert the general population!

Thanks all and noted.

I must be really paranoid!!! Am I the only one??

Those bottles in Taka and elsehwere you mentioned are not made from stainless steel. Most are aluminium with epoxy coating - SIGG is the brand and it is known that the epoxy can crack....there I go again..

So back to square one! Will continue to search...(can't help being paranoid, sonehow runs in the family.)

Statistically speaking? Probably not. But the percentage is probably not measurable to four places. But that's okay.

If the plastic was the only thing you had to worry about you would be in good shape. Should worry more about the foods you eat. Just think, genetically modified foods! Frankenstein foods? Organic Foods? Have you every seen a toilet in the fields where they pick the organic vegetables? Course you haven't. Guess where the itinerent workers pee and crap during the day? Yup, you guessed it! Like the organic spinach in the US earlier this year with e coli? Mad cows. Avian Bird flu. I think you are creating a tempest in a teacup (or water bottle if you will). Buy them a thermos with glass linings if you are so worried.

Children can also get it from paranoid moms as well! Without being hereditary but by being driven to it! :o

Already using thermos with stainless steel insides.
Problem: too heavy for my kids.
Looking for single layer stainless steel types. Hopefully lighter.

Yes and yes, do worry about all other scares whether true of not. my solution:
- no telflon pots, aluminium rice cookers. using only stainless steel cookware.
- stainless steel or glass mugs and bottles to contain water at home.
- no more T-bone steak, pre-minced beef from supermarket.
- organic food at home, balancing overall into food intake to 1:1 organic/non organic (recognising that it is not always to buy organic when we eat out.)

Will never to do enough, but it is all a game of statistics. Just decreasing the risks as much as I can humanly could for my next generation.
