Spanish food products

Post by jazzmatazzie » Thu, 23 Aug 2007 1:22 am

I just came back from a 2 week holiday in Spain and was blown away by the food..........and it got me wondering how come we don't have any shops selling Spanish food products like their ham, cheese, oil, sauces, drinks, sweets and snacks. First thing I did was to go looking for a place to buy some of the goodies after I ran out and realised I was running into a brick wall.

I mean, there are Spanish restaurants here for sure but I'm talking about food that we can buy in the supermarkets or simply snack on at home. Plus Spanish food here is majorly overpriced. All you find in the supermarkets are French and Italian products and you seldom find Spanish stuff here.

I guess its to do with how popular French and Italian food is internationally and here and how many more French and Italian people we've got here but isn't there more interest in Spanish culture given how many more people are learning Spanish and watching la liga matches? Any thoughts on this?
