Can you have a friendship without romance

Post by ciaral » Mon, 06 Aug 2007 9:37 pm

Well basically my question is can two people, male and female have very god friendship i.e have a lot in common, they talk to each others about everything, they have very close friendship and both singles. Is it possible to be pure friendship without turning into romance??

I think you can have friendship with the other gender without romance if at least one is not single but my experience in life showed me that how this close friendship always turn to romance, so I don ot think you can be just friends.

what do you think?
:???: :shock:

Like I said. A lost ball in high weeds. Clueless.

Of course any sane adult can have a platonic relationship with the opposite sex and both remain single. I have them that remain today for over 40 years now. Some of them, like me have been single, married, single several times. We are friends. The word friend is genderless.

Billy Crystal answered tis question very clearly in the movie "When Harry Met Sally".
Another question answered very clearly in that movie is"Can a man tell when a woman is faking an Org@$!m.

Find it, rent it, watch it.

In my opinion, i think it is possible to maintain a platonic friendship with someone of the opposite gender. I myself have many of such friendships which I treasure. At the end of the day, it's how you perceive and handle it. :wink:

Maybe it's because you write and talk like a 12 year old? :???:

you're right ... what does it matter to us? furthermore, if singaporaeans only take care of themselves and don't care about anyone else then why are you on here mining our opinions?

when harry met sally is excellent ... so is Say Anything ... Chasing Amy ... lots of good movies dabble on this subject.

relax.. wats with this mad emoticons and all... i'm just trying to say that maybe u're still very young ... and have not much of life's experience, hence, did not think that men and women can enjoy platonic friendships...

u should really go out and socialise more... but wipe that thought out of ur mind first!! otherwise, u might end up heartbroken if u start thinking its going to turn into a relationship everytime ...
To you, he's a dog...
To me, he's everything...

hei guess what

In order to answer your question properly, we need some basic definitions. Like what does one think of when talking about friendship and romance?

Friendship = talking only ?

Friendship = talking + hand holding + kiss on forehead or cheeks ?

Romance = talking + hand holding + kissing on lips or French kiss ?

Romance = talking + kissing on lips or French kiss + petting ?

Relationship = talking + kissing + sex ?

At what point does lurve come into the equation ?

Oh Dear ! Life is simply so complicated ! ! !
