Hawkers are the public food courts consisting of many small pavillions serving various types of food. The prices are very cheap but if you have hygienic concerns you may not feel comfortable. It is one of the best way to mix with locals and get to know food culture of Singapore. In every area especially near most HDB blocks you can find one.

You have so many alternatives to choose from that certainly there will be something you would like to eat.

Why so? Every hawker stall is graded by the Ministry of Health and those that fail inspections are shut down. The only thing that makes many furriners uncomfortable is that during midday they can be stifling hot... but as every Singaporean knows, it's the busy stalls with "D" ratings (one above failing) that make the best chow on the island 8-)

That sentence doesn't apply to me jpatokal. I enjoy every hawker I have been. But how could I know if kellw is like me or not. I decided to warn her before she tries.
