hihi, new here, can someone help me out. [regarding eating]

hihi everyone, i'm new here, (lazy to register) since I don't intend to post other messages aside from this, (I will reply, but I have no other topic to start.) I just read Tan's article on how he lost weight. Is there someone out here that can tell mi if what I'm eating is too much? I'm 14 this year, weighing around 55-60. My height is 162. According to my school, books and calculations, they all say that my weight is perfectly normal, but I look so fat and clumsy, and I have a tummy which I wanna get rid off. I think losing arund 3-4 would bring me to the "slim" range already.

today, i ate

lunch:1 extremely small plate of rice with ingredients. I think the ingredients include mushrooms, eggs...etc.., the size of the bowl is around the the size of a CD-ROM (top view) and it gets smaller at the buttom becoz of the curve. anyone would finish the rice in minimum 5-6 spoonfulls. I used to eat a bowl almost 2 times bigger.

afternoon:due to extreme hunger of the unsatisfying lunch, I ate a bowl of instant noodles. the standard packet size with eggs. I have no idea how many calories it contain.

night:I ate, (again) a very very very small portion of rice. with curry and 2 potatos (sliced so I guess that would make 1 full potato?), vegetables and small prawns. then I had a yohgurt, corn soup and pear.

roughly, am I eating too much? at least to lose some weight.

Thanks for any potential help.

Hi Blue,

I think yr meals are too much carbo contained. Firstly yr are only 14 and still growing.. I wud suggest u cut down rice to one meal and have lean meat and lots of vege. For BF, why dun go for healthy cereal or whole meal bread with thinly spread peanut butter.

for lunch, replace bee hoon with noodles.. instant noodles are a NoNo or buy those 99% fat free type... if u are a big eater, throw in the noodles shredded vege to make portion bigger and try to have all yr meals fin in 20mins...

For snacks in between, munch on cereals/rice crackers la, or those baked chips (not fried), sugar must cut down also lor.

THis way you will not put on more weight but difficult to reduce as at the end of the day, exercise is the ultimate tool to lose weight.

Try to go fr walks daily for 30 mins if possible.

Hope the above helps...

Hello Blueboy,
I'm here to give u some tips on losing weight and eating healthy.
If you are asking me if you are eating too much. I would say it's not about the quantity but it's about the quality of the food and the time you took the food.

Rule number 1 to lose weight.
Never skip breakfast. Your spleen works the best during morning and need rest during the night. If you know how your body works, you will be able to manage your food well according the way your body works. Have an apple or 2 slices of toasted bread with low fat margerine or milk with high fibre cereal. It will help u to eat less during the day and give u more energy for the day. You need the energy and maintain your metabolism rate. Eating less or nothing will conserve your energy thus lower your metabolism rate.

If you are a morning person as you wake up really early in the morning like 6-7am. You can drink a glass of warm water with lemon squash in it to help u to cleanse your colon and digestive system. Then around 9am, have your breakfast.

Instant noodles are NoNo because the noodle itself has no nutrients and the packet of seasoning is high in sodium aka salt and msg.
Eggs are high in cholestrol so becareful when taking them.
What you need in your diet is low in sodium, low in sugar, high in fibre, high in nutrients.
Fill up your plate with 80% of veges and 20% of some other high in carbo or high in protein food will give you more energy, digest easily and lose weight. You don't have to starve while trying to go on a losing weight diet.

Night time. It is best not to have high carbo food during the night as it is the slowest to digest among all food. Have ur last meal 3hours before u sleep so that your spleen can rest during the night.

You can leave your yogult, pear, soup in between ur meals. Fruits are best to be taken alone and an hour before your main meals.

If you plan to dine out. Either bring your meal with u or be more picky at food. Try not to eat food that you do not know how much calories it contain. I saw a recent newspaper about US promoting the new burger which has 1400 cals in it. It is equivelent to one day allowance of calories.
Similarly, a normal burger with fries and coke is also equivelent to one day allowance of calories. SO unless u plan to have only one meal per day. Don't go for fast food.

Hope this help.

hihi again, thanks everyone for their comments. I have another problem regarding this issue. and please, I do not wish to have any conversation outside of this forum, hmm, E-mail is another seperate issue and I don't check my e-mails regulary because they are usually jammed with spam and viruses.

To all experts, I have a brother, 2 years younger than me. He is slim, not really tall or strong. I always have the thinking if I eat the same or less than what he eats everyday I will lose weight. I wonder if this "theory" is correct?

Just some background info, the excess fat I have on me is caused by overeating when I was 9-10 (primary 3-4), I ate 2 bowls of rice everyday, with chilli sauce and alot alot of soft drinks. then at primary 5-6 I didn't really eat that much but I didn't control also.

Since my brother and I, spent most of the time at home together I get to know what he eats and normally we share the same type of food during dinner. I usually keep note of what he puts into his mouth and some days he even eat more than me.

The difference is, from young (about 2-3 years back), my brother has been regularly excercising, playing soccer almost everyday. recently, he hasn't been doing since it's holidays and he can't find anyone to play with. and thus, he just spents 1/2-1 hr occasionally kicking in our garden.

during my primary sch days, i used to be alot fatter than today. I have lost alot weight during this year because there was one period I play 2 hrs of badminton everyday, and after every game I even drink one big gulp from 7 eleven. all my relatives who saw me and didn't see me for such a long time all said I slim down by ALOT.

my tummy used to be 3 times bigger, now it's almost flat, but when I sit down it still forms a mountain. I have most fats on my face, back (between armpits), and my legs.

I have been continuing playing badminton, and I haven't drink coke for about 2-3 weeks already. recently because of rain, and no courts in sport complex, i didn't play for almost half-a-week. i swim about 2-3 times a week.

Being an impatient person, I usually doubt myself whether the results will show, and I was afraid that the food I took in totally cancelled all the effects of excercise.

And finally, my question. Why some people can stay fit while they don't excercise. Izzit they have insanely fast meta rate? and I lost weight playing badminton 1-2 hours daily even though I drank 1 big gulp everytime after excercise, and to add on, i didn't watch what I ate. So the question, how much can excercise play a part in weight lost? I mean, if I excercise, can I simply lose weight when I eat what a normal human does? I don't think I have a slow meta-rate, since maybe some days I'm just no gaining or losing, I still have some excess "sinful" kilos of fat I wan to burn which r gained last time.

I hope experts out there can understand my situation, I don't have the power to really choose what I eat at home. It's either I eat or I don't eat. I'm forced to eat the same as everyone in my household, and everyone else is slim and fit.

Also, btw, is bread good to snack on?

Hey little girl,

the best thing you can do is move your body. Go outside and play, walk, swim, meet with friends. To improve your figure, only sports will help. You will loose weight and even if you maintain the same weight, your body will have more muscles and that just looks nicer.

Regarding your food, I would suggest to eat fruit and vegetables whenever you have the choice. Rice and bread are ok, but whenever possible, go for raw vegetables (cucumber, carrots, cellerie, tomatoes) or fruit (apple, orange, pineapple, papaya, melon). This is also fine as a snack.

But sports is the best recipe. You will feel better and you will definitely become more attractive.

Hi Blue Scape Goat,

The answers to your questions can get very intricate and technical. However, I shall summarize it up for you.

1) Exercise!
a)include resistance training (not necessarily restricted to weight trg)
b)inlcude cardio training (jogging is the best but badminton is still OK)

2) Nutrition (eat the right foods to lose fat, not less food!)
a)consume high fibre carbo, healthy fats, quality protein (natural foods)
b)STAY AWAY from fried food, sugary food, processed foods

There are still other combination of factors like energy balance, metabolic rate, hormonal state, etc that are integral to fat loss.

But as for now, don't worry about that. Just concentrate first on getting the 2 points done consistently.

If you need more detailed info on the exercise and nutrition part, just reply to this thread.

Good luck! :D

Everyone / Hans

I'm trying to lose weight as well and I'm wondering if I'm doing the right thing. Can we analyse this together?

Morning - 9am
Oats cereal (4 tablespoons added to water + equal sugar substitute)
Salad with Tuna
Green apple
Decaf coffee (non-diary creamer + equal sugar substitute)

Mid morning - 10-11am
3 Jacob's wheatmeal crackers
1 Protein shake - 95 calorie

Lunch - 12.30pm
Yong Tau Hoo
Diet vanilla coke

Tea - 2.30pm
1 Protein Shake

4pm
3 Jacob's wheat cracker

6.30pm
Dinner - no rice, soup, meat and vegetables (very healthy)
Green apple

I also drink out and at home very often during the week - about 5-6 times and each time I'll have about 1/2 a bottle of red wine

Exercise - gym for strength training 2 times a week
Cardio 20min x 2 times a week
