Just Relocated and Seeking Job in Investment/Banking Area

Post by blu370n3 » Mon, 17 Jul 2006 10:58 am

Hi All,

I just relocated from US to Singapore and currently seeking position in Investment or Banking area. Can someone suggest me what's the best way to get in touch with the financial firms here? I have submitted my resume via JobDB.com also responding the ads on weekend newspaper.

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

Hi there,

try get in touch with one of these two agents

http://www.robertwalters.com/home/Singapore.jsp

or MIchaelpages

They specialise in jobs in finance/investment banking.

Also depends on what roles you're looking for. Currently I would say the market is not bad...seems all investment banks are growing MAD!

HI,

Newbie in this forum myself. Yea the investment banking in the SEA region is really on the move. As always singapore feeds off the inneficiencies of other countries in the region, basically when the region is at growth financial sector will grow as well since singapore is essentially the HUB of financial services in SEA. So there are opportunities there. try contacting directly to the HR department directly as well, companies such as merril lynch, UBS, Deutsche bank, standard chartered and even insurance companies as well like AIA, surely they have investment sub units as well. Their company's website is a good starting point. I myself will be moving from Australia to Singapore to work in FEB in finance, goes to show that by contacting HR directly can have a successful outcome.

Are you talking about getting in at analyst or associate level? From your question, I'll assume that you are referring to associate level positions at a minimum.

Okay, in your best interests, let me be absolutely frank - to get into high finance jobs, which include traditional investment banking, sales, trading or private banking, it is quite difficult to get into the Tier 1 banks like Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch, JP Morgan, CSFB etc...

Main reason is that they recruit primarily on-grounds at the top business schools (what they term core schools) in the US, UK and to a lesser extent, Australia. It is when they cannot find MBAs from their core group of schools that they open it up to others from their non-core schools or other with experience. To be honest, the few Harvard, Wharton, Columbia, etc. MBAs (you get the idea) who want to return to the SE Asia office are usually enough to fill these positions.

It is true that other Masters degree holders like M.Finance or MSc. Finance etc can get in too but still a bit harder because they deemed core recruiting programs as the MBA at HBS, Wharton, Columbia, LBS etc.

The other way to get into the Tier 1s is through very, very strong networks already in the banking industry.... That probably works better than having to go through the "normal" channels which I described above
This is something I wrote in response to another question on IB and high finance. Now, if you came from i-banking and high finance in the States, you probably stand a good chance if you use the top headhunters like Heidrick & Struggles, Korn Ferry, Boyden to name a few.

Finance Job Placement

Post by munchies » Sat, 27 Jan 2007 4:26 pm

Hi tfang, read that your coy is looking for Finance personnel. May I find out further, which sector is this, or is this a recruitment for financial adviser/insurance agent? I have an Aussie friend (no PR) who is actively looking for a position in the banking/finance related industry. His education background is Bachelor of Science (computer science) and Masters in Applied Finance. He was previously employed as Asia-Pacific customer financing manager with a reputable telecom MNC. Is there any remote relevance to what your coy is looking for? Many thanks in advance!!! Cheers
