I had a regretful acne problem from October of last year untill May of this year. Every treatment I tried, failed. 3 dermatologists couldn't figure it out, one even tried prescribing heart medicine. Greedy bastards. It left a few scars but most have faded away in the passing months. I'm guessing it was caused by the tremendous amounts of stress placed upon me at the time. Needless to say, I have not had a pimple in quite some time thanks to B5.
The cure? Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid)
What it is :
'Coenzyme A' performs multiple functions vital to the sustenance of good health but two tasks in particular are the regulation of hormones throughout the body and the breakdown of fatty acids in the digestive tracts. Without being scientific in relation to your problem; Coenzyme A relieves stress, maintains a healthy balance of hormones throughout the body to ensure successful reproduction, and aids in the digestion of unnatural fats.
Pantothenic acid is the main compound found in Coenzyme A.
What I understand about acne:
Since Coenzyme A performs so many vital functions, a deficiency in one of the main areas listed above can cause acne or pimples to form on the skin. If you are constantly stressed out, Coenzyme A will frantically work to lower stress levels but since the body isn't perfect, it will largely ignore the breakdown of fatty acids. If you are young and growing, hormones raging throughout the body will lead to a massive deficiency in Coenzyme A, which means less Coenzyme A to deal with stress and the breakdown of fatty acids (this being the main cause of acne).
Pimples are formed when the body can not breakdown or maintain the level of fat molecules in the gut. It instead decides to excrete the fat molecules in the form of oil through the sebaceous glands (skin pores). For bacteria, this form of pure oil is highly nutritious and as can be expected, they decide to feast on the oil as it is pumped from the skin.
Your body sees this bacteria as harmful invaders, even though they're really only there for a quick snack, and being as the body cannot attack anything on the surface of the skin, it decides to trap the bacteria in hopes of destroying it. And that is how a pimple forms.
Cystic acne and nodules are formed when the body responds too harshly and decides to isolate the bacteria rather than destroy it. Or perhaps the immune system isn't strong enough to destroy the bacteria present. With more severe forms of acne, the immune system decides to kill all skin cells surrounding the bacteria and a nodule is formed. All things in nature not being perfect, this response is completely ridiculous as the bacteria will continue to replicate untill the nodule or cyst bursts, leaving your face with a nasty scar.
People commonly believe that greasy food, oily skin, dirty skin and an assortment of other false presumptions are the root cause of acne. The truth is that the slightest bit of oil intake could potentially raise a disaster scenario if not enough Coenzyme A is present in the body. Excessively washing your skin only makes acne worse as small amounts of oil excreted from your pores help create a protective shell that allows the skin to regenerate during all hours of the day.
People also believe acne only occurs for those going through puberty or coming out of it. Completely false. A large portion of teenagers will experience acne because hormonse are in full rage and Coenzyme A doesn't have enough molecules available to break down those Dorito's you ate for lunch.
One thing I've rarely heard is that acne can be contagious. But it's true. Not acne itself. The bacteria that feasts on oil are light enough to float from one person to another. If for whatever reason stress levels hit a climax, or maybe you have been eating too much greasy food lately, being near another individual with acne will expose you to the bacteria present on their skin. This is also why certain groups living in isolated areas such as Alaska, parts of Africa, South America...etc. have zero incidences of acne amongst their respective populations.
Why take Vitamin B5:
Because having excessive amounts of Coenzyme A present in the body will help you cope with stressful periods, hormone problems and the digestion of unhealthy fats. It also reduces pore sizes or so others claim; I haven't really seen a reduction in my pores but my skin is far less oily than before B5.
I first read about this from acne.org back in April. Since then and to this day I take one 500mg capsule after dinner which is 5,000% of the daily recommendation. I have not noticed any terrible side effects although I do feel that my vision has been slightly blurred.
For the first two weeks on b5, I didn't see much of a change but after the first month, the change was dramatic. After 5 weeks from starting B5, I stopped getting pimples all together.
I can't remember the last time I had a pimple but I also keep a strict regiment of 1 nightly dosage after each dinner, everyday. I have found since relocating to Singapore that GNC is one of the only stores to sell B5( pantothenic acid).
It is definitely worth a try if you haven't tried anything else.
