Video is some of the most intensive work for any PC so processing power is very important and of course the bigger the screen the better.

I'm not sure i'd use a laptop for video but if you do make sure.
a/ best processor you can buy ( rendering your video project can tkae hours)
b/ big screen ( editing on anything less than a 17 inch screen will induce a headache)
c/ Onboard memory ( again the more the better)
d/ Hard sik size ( raw HD or even DV files are quite big)
( actually i always store the raw video on a portable disk so i can work at it on laptop or desk top depending where i am)
e/ If possible an onboard firewire port ..if not a PMCIA card version
f/ Video out port. ( can be usefull for viewing on a normal TV or Plasma.)

HD ??? Now theres a tricky one. With so many formats and resolutions flying around it's difficult to know what you ( or anybody else ) means by HD.
Most packages can edit to 720 P
It all depends on where you video is coming from and what results you expect.

If you have any specific questions let me know.

Good luck

video editing

Yes, I agree that most notebooks are not designed for video editing. However, sony is attempting that with its vaio. I'll go for Mac.

If you are using it for non-professional use, MacBook Pro fits the bill. It is an excellent machine and gives you what you need, includes the software too. Being a PC and Mac user, I'll recommend Mac over PC anytime. I've created and screen a number of videos using Mac at business meetings and they came out pretty well. Apple also gives a free and easy to use video editing software. You wouldn't regret if you chose Mac. You can learn the software, iMovie, within and hour.

Let me know if I can help further.

Cheers
