I Defy Anyone to Figure This Out

Post by Mary Hatch Bailey » Wed, 24 May 2006 9:09 pm

I just got a phone call from someone out of the blue, who is visiting Singapore and very distantly related.

She is:

my husband's
grandmother's
twin brother's
grandaughter

So what does that mean exactly? Can anyone explain how, if at all, we are related?

Is it your husband's 2nd cousin?

Wow! Is that true?

So

Cheekybeek is to crossword puzzles as
Saint is to...
is to...

filial relationships??

Is she my second cousin once removed? Can anyone 'second' Saint's conclusion?

That something I just never quite understood. What the hell is "Once Removed"? Does it mean we can't get them back? Removed from what exactly? are they part of the family tree? a branch or a root? :???:
I used to think only people born in the south (e.g., tennessee, kentucky, W. Virgina had that much inbreeding - that's what I though it was anyway.)

Thanks SMS I'm glad I'm not the only one that doesn't comprehend that term.

It's like me and my best friend...

she married my Mother's Mother's Sister's daughter's Son :???: Or my great Aunt's Daughter's Son which ever is more confusing

She didn't even know she was marrying into my family :D

I've actually impressed myself as I've just found this website that agrees with me :o

http://www.bicknell.net/books/pc1981/p_family.htm

Look half way down at the cousin's bit and you'll see a diagram. Change Dora to your husband's Grandmother and John to her Brother, you will see your husband will be Robert and Sarah will be the very distant relative

I hope that make sense :?

This is a first, me educating SMS :o

Ok "removed" relates to the children of "cousin" e.g

Your Cousin's children are your 1st Cousins once removed
Your Cousin's Grandchildren are your 1st Counsins twice removed

The same theory refers to your 2nd cousins, 3rd cousins etc
