Currently in the throes of a mid-life crisis, and thought I'd prove it by taking up music!

Can anyone suggest where to find guitar tuition suitable for the older student?

Not an expert on this at all, but I would assume (and probably shouldn't assume anything) that any place that teaches guitar would teach to any age group. If the instructor tries to teach you songs that you have never heard or have no desire to learn, tell him/her that and suggest some songs that you are familiar with. Good luck.
I know that there is a place in Plaza Singapura and another at Parkway.

First of all, congrats on deciding to learn a new skill. At the very least, your enjoyment and appreciation of music will increase. Suddenly you'll be able to understand just what it is that those guitarists and other musicians are doing. Be warned that begiining to play guitar can be a very painful experience - and not just to your ears. The finger tips of your left hand are going to get very sore!

The place that the previous poster mentions is Yamaha Music. They offer a fairly wide variety of classes to suit different levels of ability and experience. Bear in mind that, as a beginner, you will be learning pretty straight forward stuff. If you have a taste for jazz for example, it's not very likely that you'll be able to play ANY of that stuff. Yamaha is not a bad choice. You can also check out your local community centre as they sometimes have beginners' classes. Another choice, if you don't mind things getting a bit religious, would be Believers' Music in International Plaza. They teach basic worship guitar to beginners. (Many Christian worship songs are very easy to learn and play.) You can also check out Luther Music in the basement of Peninsula Shopping Centre. A lot of his customers are beginning guitarists and he should be able to point you in the direction of a good teacher/class.

Thanks for your earlier posts.

After speaking with Yamaha, it seems they can only offer individual tuition on weekday afternoons, when I'm usually chained to my office.

Does anyone have an alternative recommendation?

Almost all great musicians start out as being self-taught. There are lots of guitar learning resources online that can inspire you and help you get started with the basics. this way, you can learn at your own pace and time. if the guitar is really the instrument for you, then everything should progress naturally. good luck.

Hi!!!
There is a community centre that does give guitar lessons to beginners of all ages... just try Bradell heights community centre in serangoon... the cost is $80 for 12 sessions, an hour each, from 8.30 to 9.30 on friday nights... you have to own a guitar though...
