Beer and more beer....

Post by No Borders » Wed, 03 May 2006 3:58 pm

Hi there,

where can one go for good beer (not watered down beer), but with a reasonable price - cheap would be great.
Even better if the place has good food and nice ambiance, where people are friendly and service is good,... (am i asking too much?) :)

thanks!

Brewerkz is probably your best bet there...Microbrewed beer, cheap, great atmosphere, nice tasting beer!...and good food too!

Thanks for all the reply.

Agree that beer at hawker center is cheap (been going there a few times), but i'd welcome a different type of 'atmosphere'. Sometimes you're lucky and get good food, too.

Agree with Rose that food at Brewerkz are not that good. Not so cheap either...

I'm more looking for pub/ bar - down to earth kinda thing.

Have heard "OOSTERS" mentioned in this forum a few times, but don't know where it is... Maybe someone can tell me where it is? Thanks... much appreciated!

By beer do you mean real beer as in ales, or lager?

You could try the Paulaner Brauhaus place opposide Suntec convention centre.

Or if you just want pubs there are some of those Irish pubs around, Scruffy Murphys and the like. I find them a bit expensive though.

There are places on the East coast where you can get a beer and be near the sea - if they have happy hour they are not too expensive. But really, the cheap beer is at the hawker centres. Try the lagoon hawker centre on the east for the cheapest place to have a beer AND be near the sea!

Or you could head up to Changi Village. There is a nice atmosphere up there and a bar that sells lots of different beers. What's the name of it peeps? Is it Charlies or something?

Come on guys, we are not looking for the cheapest fuel here... (at least I am not).

When it come to enjoying beer, only one place comes to my mind...

Barczar - have i offend you by not liking brewerkz? sorry! didn't mean to.

Loops - thanks for all the info, will definitely try all the places you've mentioned. As for lager or ales? hmm.... depends, but i think more leaning to lager.

Carpe Diem - have looked at Oosters website, and looks and sounds good! My mouth is watering already just by looking at the menu, the place looks nice and cozy. And they have "Stella".
And you're right - shouldn't be talking about 'cheap'... just a nice place to drink beer with a reasonable price.

Cheers everyone!

I do agree with Bafana's thinking as such, we have had occasions with the WNDC, where we would strand at a place like the postbar at Fullerton hotel. There we could 'enjoy' an Erdinger Beer for the little sum of 26 S$ :o

That is not my kind of enjoyment, it is outrageous and insane.

But at the same time, for me and I think a few others here there is such a variety in beers and especially in good beers, that are even better enjoyed with some proper and decent food in a nice ambience. And it should NOT mean it has to suck your wallet dry, as the enjoyment will then be gone, like at the idiot postbar.

Well, in that case no other place in Singapore than Oosters matches superb beers with nice, authentic Belgian dishes.

Last night we went again, I had 2 Hoegaarden Grand Cru and a Chimay Bleu, a seafood bouilabaisse and my all time favorite fries with Belgian mayonaise. Less then 50 S$...

Eric
