Hi Giraff,

Read your post some pages back tt you done ear surgery before and I really happy to see your post stating that the feeling may come back, so the doc is not not blaffing (is the spelling right arh?) me!!!

Nose wise, I'm more or less settle with the current look, hope they will keep as such forever... :)

Am adjusting well. The first few days are really bad cos I was didn't bring adaptor and lap top ran out of bat, can't use it. So the only thing I cld do was cry and sigh in front of the mirror! Guess am over the depression period liao.

Rdgs,

Rabbit:

Yep, I assure you feeling will come back. Are you ready to go to a salon just yet? I waited 9 months before I had the courage to walk inside one! BTW, did your doc ask you to massage the back of your ear or nose?

Hi Giraffe,

Do I need to do the massage? Sigh... as said, I haven't even got the chance to see him after I the time I requested to see him... so he didn't tell me this. But luckily bcos I feel sad for my ear and wanted my nose bridge straight and nose tip sharp, I've been doing it myself.

May I know what is the proper massage I should do? Thx!

Rabbit,

I think you should upload your before and after photos on a link so that we can see how beautiful your nose looks like now.

you may try www.faceparty.com or any other photo links that you can upload.

For the ear: wait for 3 weeks and if you can feel small lumps in the back of ear then you take a finger and gentle massage it in one direction (not circular). You can do this a few times a day.

For nose: since you had an implant I doubt you will experience these sometimes transitory "lumps". Don't touch the nose. Make sure you find a doc here and go for follow-ups.

Hi all,

Someone pm'ed me to ask the following questions. As they look like some FAQs, would like to answer here so there everyone knows.

1) how long did you have to stay in Korea
I stayed for 11 days. 3 nights in the clinic (but doc don't really welcome since the rm is meant for big ops, request to stay 1 nite should be ok). Then 7 nights in a services apartment. web-site: http://www.excellentvill.com/english/loc_naksong.asp

The owner (daddy) can speak English, daughters can also speak fluent English too. They are super hospitable pple, the apartment is new... but it's kind of like self Service Apartment... I stayed 7 nites, no one came in to clean up my room while inside go vaccum cleaner... not sure if that's meant for DIY... but anyway, it's news and price super good, 270,000 for 7nights. Pls. note that is min stay, so can't be cheaper. Alternatively, can ask BK to arrange accommodation for you at Riverview, it's around US5X per night. But I like svc apartment, can do some cooking, got microwave and washing machine (outside the rm).

2) Which Dr did the surgery
The clinic is called BK Clinic in Sinsa in Seoul, web-site as follow:
http://www.bkclinic.com/
Do check out the Chinese web-site, more info is translated.
Also pls. see the videos for the cinderellers (ie the one with 5 gals sitting around a table), it's ard 30 mins long, I watch that many times, it sort of tell you what are those gals gone thru' roughly, and you can see the b4 and after looking of 5 of them.

Yes, in BK there are a number of docs specialised in different things and Dr. Kim Byung Gun (the owner of BK clinic) did the surgery for me.

3) price
Wah... expensive. At least to me. For Augmentation + lengthening using ear cartilage is US$4,500. I remember Dr. Kim quoted me that incl alar reduction too, but turns out during consultation, the nurse quote me that needs to add US$1,000 and using gortex is another US$500! Added up to US$5,500, it's really out of my budget S$4,500... then I errr for very long time, the nurse finally discounted a few hundred US for me... I guess it's not very good to tell exactly how much they cut for me... so just try to bargain a bit la. (eerr.. I think Dr. Kim probably wld think Singapore patients are very gamsep...sorry, don't know how to spell gamsep, since I'm not local...)

Just silicon implant is US$2,500.

4) accomodation
As stated above.

5) flight
SQ, using my mileage accummulated from credit card la, work trip la etc... saved for 5 years already lei!

6) When is the day to go for surgery? (Qn added by me)
I guess it's not Mon. Dr. Kim goes to Shanghai (for BK in China) once every 2 wks, so I guess he must be quite tired when come back on Mon and the Mon I saw him, he got 8 ops totally pack from 9am till 6 or 7pm! Ladies just in and out the ops rm. I saw the first one rush to lie down on the ops bed at 8.45am... amazing... 25mins later, she is out with 2 plaster on the eyelid. Then an hr later, I saw a mum accompanying her daughter leaving the clinic, plaster on nose + ear, ie my types of rhino. Anyway, he is quite busy. Towards later of the week, say Wed or Thu is quite good.

I'm quite lucky, I did ops on a not busy Fri. Then requested to stay in the clinic on Sat and Sun when after Sat 3pm, no more nurse, and ops of course, so I just enjoy the peaceful time to rest in the admission room. But the worst part is, once after office hr, there is no more hot water!!! There's a shower host in the toilet on the admission rm floor (5/F), but no hot water is too cold to shower in the mth of Apr in Seoul... so no proper shower for 3 night... yack...

7) Must get the Chinese speaking nurse by the name Kim
She is the most caring service staff I've ever encounter in my life and I'm in tourism industry lei, so my requirement was quite high already and she way exceeded my expectation. She really goes all the way to help you.
Whenever I go for change dressing, I asked for her companion and she translated all my questions and got the answers for me. Super nice lady! On the day I check out the clinic, I was crying on her shoulder hugged her for a while, cos I was really depressed. Guess what, she tried to called to the service apartment that night to check out if I'm alright!! Am so touch!

8) Internet connection:
I tried in BK, there's wireless (but unsecured) connection, remember to bring 2 round pin adaptor, then you can surf net and update everyone here too, live reporting.

Rabbit,

I think the price bit put me off... dont you think they tried to rip you off on the day of consultation? I really cannot imagine this because they will leave you in a predicament! We should suffer no fools

I guess BK overheads are high so they have to charge exorbitant amount for the same procedure elsewhere. Its business isnt it?

I do know of some docs that are good but cost effective at the same time really hard to tell.

we cant wait to see your nose before and after!!

Sorry, still diarrhea in posting :) ...

Just want to share with you all what actually happened to me on the day of surgery and after... guess some of you may want to know.

Day 1
8.30am - For anyone going to BK direct from airport, you shld take airport limo to Apgujeong, BK is RIGHT next to the Subway station called Sinsa. So just 1 station away, cab fare will be cheap. BUT Seoul taxi driver got a bit of attitude like ours, too close, they sometimes refuse to take you! Or like HateMyNose, he took the limo 609 and alighted at Gangnam station, than took cab from there.

10am - finally reached BK, appointment was made at 9.30am though... still not prepared yet. Guess that day Dr. Kim was quite free. I waited inside the consultation rm... was a bit worry cos the clinic looks older than the pix in web-site...but it's fine, don't worry.
Consultation was ard 15 mins. For those that followed my post, I once talked about the nose bridge that I don't like. It's just 1 straight block from top to bottom, then Dr. Kim told me implants for all cases I showed were "I" shape and roughly the same, it depends on whether the patients got fat around the corner of the eyebrows etc to form the curve, so I finally got the answer.
I did asked him whether I can go diving and wakeboarding (wonder if he knows what is that)... anyway, he told me swimming is 1 mth later.

10.15am - After Dr. Kim talked to me and answer all the questions I have (that's your only chance, pls. pls. ask whatever you have and be organized, to the point), a nurse took me to another rm to see b4 and after pix. Negotiated the price. Then pay at the counter. Then take b4 photos (strange, they never take my after photos though).

10.30am - move my luggage to the admission rm, fr 3rd floor (consultation) to 5th floor. Ladies, REMEMBER, BK don't have lift!!! Though the nurse will help you to move your luggage, but a bit paisei too. So don't bring so many things like me!
Check into a room, there's no private room, all with 2 beds, so be prepared to share with others if that day is busy, normally they will separate the patients if have enough rms. Inside the rm there's locker with keys, do lock it to avoid cases like me... $ flyes...

11.30am - I asked for sometime to settle my mind... but my mind was actually blank most of the time. Just haven't prepared still. Changed to the clothing I'll sleep with for that night. The ops rm is just right at the end of that floor, so that movement after surgery is minimal. Lay down then nurse start to tie my hands, then I recall Ocean 11's post, ya... they need to tie our hands down to avoid our sudden movement and that is, no turning back! Once again, I look at the ops rm, it's older than the web-site pix wor! Some cloths got blood stains wor! But it's alright, don't worry... :)
Then is IV sedation in the left hand... off I go liao. When I wake up, it was towards the end of the surgery, (so I can be sure it's Dr. Kim did my surgery)... I was half concious, at that critical moment, Dr. Kim insert the implant into my nose... wah!!! Gosh, not pain, but super unbearrable feeling... I was eee aaarrr for 30 sec, nobody response to me though... guess that's quite normal. Then I started to feel my back was very stiff... probably after the long flight and didn't exercise for a few mths... just want to move a bit. Once I move, the nurse said don't move... but it's aching la... then without I knowing how, Dr. Kim put in my ear cartilage (harvested while I was in deep asleep) and sew back all wounds already. Then a nurse plaster after plaster covered my whole nose. Then it's done. The Chinese nurse was there thru' out and then she call me to sit up and walk back to my rm, right opp to the ops rm.

Then is sleeping with 2 - 3 pillows up. The Chinese nurse also brought me a frozen pack, then I slept for a few hrs. Woke up at 3pm, pressed the bell (yes, there's a bell for you to call your nurse), then Chinese nurse appear within 3 sec. She offer to buy me some instant congee. Everything she need to use your $ she will get an receipt, so nice! Likewise when she helped me to get the medicine (for 7 days). Ah... forgot to say medicine is ard S$20 for a week... and changing dressing is FOC.

BK's operations hrs daily fr 9am to 7pm, with Friday up to 9pm... The Chinese nurse usually will come in to alert you that she is off now, any last help needed etc.

So that's all for day 1.

Day 2 rest and TV (with cable, but mainly Korean channels... remember to search a channel, I think is 19 called OCN, it's a movie channel, so finally no Korean!), then food and medicine.

If you are staying over at the clinic like me (better get Dr. Kim's permission first via email). Remember to order food for the off office hours ie 3pm Sat to 9am Mon. At least 4 meals cos main door will be locked, so no more delivered man... quite dangerous hor, in case of fire... but you won't think about that at that time la... In other times, whenever you want food, just ask the nurse to order for you, there's set delivery menu, each meal ard 5,000 won to 10,000 or even 20,000 won, depends on what you order.

Was intended to check out on Mon noon, but wanted to see Dr. Kim to ask about the feeling of my ear, so I stayed till 6pm... that's why I have been seeing those ladies in and out the ops rm... For moving fr clinic to Service Apartment or hotel, remember to avoid peak hour. From BK (Sinsa, in line 3, orange colour) to Nakseongdae (in line 2, green colour) is a long cab ride, plus jam, it cost me 13,000 (won) over S$20 (exchange rate is ard 576 to 560)...

Day 3 to 8 - basically hide inside the service apartment and clear a bit of work, clear emails too + depress since day 2, look at the mirror and sigh.... Watch OCN and eat food that I bought over from SG.

Day 6 (Wed), went back to change dressing (by subway, very easy to navigate and cheap!). I changed dressing on Sat and Sun while I was staying in the clinic (ya... the nurse came back on Sun to do change dressing for all patients. What a company to work for!). Then Wed went back and Fri removed stitches. Go back on Mon (the 2nd one) again wanted to remove stitches at the back of my ear before flying off, but decided not to remove it prematurely.

Arh... the svc apartment in Nakseongdae is quite close to Nakseongdae subway station, 5 mins walk downhill (which means 5 mins walk up hill when you come back at night after shopping). At the hill foot, there's a convenience store call "Buy The Way", you can stock up instant noodle and my favourite, rice wrap with seaweed (that's the way they call it, not sushi or Fan Tuan..., but it's Fan Tuan actually).

Remember subway close at around 11.30pm, remember not to miss it orh!

Hiya... that's probably sums up my entire trip. Hope you don't find it very lor soh.

OK... refreshed list of things to bring... I know it's the third one... but should be the last one, feel free to add too:
- make up remover cloth
- alcochol / iodine
- cotton tips (ard 100 pcs shld be enough)
- surgeon mask (if you are not doing ear cartilage)
- a cap
- adaptor for 3 square pins (ie ours) to 2 round pins
- some list of basic korean, so that at least you can point and ask
- rent a hp in the airport, otherwise, you will really lost touch with the world, your family members if don't know where you are going, may get very worried... like mine....
- don't go during "period" for ladies...

So this would be my last post for today. Then these 3 wks I will need to run ard to prepare things for my posting to HK... so may not reply very often... oh... still don't hv a kind heart to tell me how to post pic online errrh.... I want to learn also, pls. share if you don't mind that bit of typing.

Hi Kwell,

Oh... sorry, missed your post, will try that web-site and see how.

BTW, BK was known as doing surgery for some Korean celebrities. Ya you are right, I guess Dr. Kim charges a premium. But I guess he knows he is famous cos he went for interview like our Woffles Wu and he did big make over for free or cheap price for those "cinderellas" (see videos), so he is quite well known, I guess.

My six sense told me you probably is a guy. For secondary rhino and it's a guy, you may like to consider Dr. Jung, so far I think his guy patients all looks nice after ops. Web-site: http://korea.nose.co.kr/english/recent/recent01.asp

The nurses refuse to tell me who is the celebrity that went there, but probably are those that are not very famous yet kind. The Chinese nurse told me in one of the change dressing day that she saw 3 celebrities yesterday, but push to say she can't remember their names. I believe in her, so I guess BK do gets some celebrity customers.

So price to go BK is really paying a premium, but negotiate before you reach there may help. By the time you reach there, also can pretend that you decided to go back to hotel to think about it (or just say you'll find one if you already said you want to check in after ops that day). But frankly speaking, if you have time and $ to stay 1 day in hotel, do stay 1 nite before the ops, you can also check out other docs. (1) Dr. Jung, the one I really considered, but chose Dr. Kim at the end. (2) Jelim just outside Apgujeong station, opp to Hyndai Shopping mall. Someone posted here, I think it's MyNose, said that it's famous too. Also, some time to prepare yourself.

Hi Giraffe,

Thx for your advice... was thinking of going to a GP for follow ups... guess will find a PS in SG to go for check ups then.

For the saloon ma... I guess I will ask for the cover to cover my ear all the way... guess that's ok la ba. Ya... saloon in Singapore like to rinse your ear as well, so annoying... mmm... will think about it again.

Look forward to welcome the feeling of my ear back. :D Xie xie ni!

Rabbit,

Very proud of you! You are so far the most impressive plastic-surgery-ex-patient i had met! You are really confident and independent. Eventhough you had a depression during your recovery period, unlike some i know, you did not march into the doctor's office and demand he remove the implant or start scolding him (he must be thinking you are nuts if you do so).

Very detailed description (funny too!) in your posts, which i believe will help some ps-wannabes who plan to go korea for any surgery.

Overall, i am really glad and happy for you that you are starting to see results, and best of all, you are starting to like your new nose.

Bravo gal!

Hmmm... what should I do next? Cheekbone reduction maybe?

Hi Jovin,

Hee hee... I almost wanted to. But the doc did nothing wrong, bridge is straight, nostrils are balanced, so if I demand any revision... I guess I probably may need to pay. Even not the doc's fee, the op theatre will have charge too... and I'm totally broke, that's why I didn't ... not that I'm so strong though... Also my work kept me engaged which was good, so must bring something to occupy the free time so that won't think so smthg stupid. :)

Sorry all... I still haven't got the time to treat the photos and post it online. When down, will post here to let you all know.

Rabbit
