Athlete's Foot

Post by Hopeless » Wed, 22 Sep 2004 7:18 pm

i'm sorry this is such a disgusting subject but am at my wits end. I suffer from athletes foot, have been for years. tried everything.. all the alopathic meds (oral and topical), the aromatherapy oils (tea tree, lavender, etc etc), the powders, everything. It goes off for awhile but returns speedily.
Does anyone know if Acupuncture and /or Homeopathy or Traditional chinese medicine would help?

Hi,
When I was young, I remember my mum soaking my feet in rice water for about half an hour every day. ( ie the water that is used to washing the rice before cooking it.) It works!

Try it.

Have you seen a doctor? Or do you self-medicate? Usually general practitioners might not be able to help, you may want to consult a dermatologist or a specialist in NSC.

Try spraying anti-bacterial foot spray on your feet as frequent as possible and also on your foot wear. Make sure your feet is always dry and wear toe socks often to absorb sweat esp. in between toes.

I've heard about using TCM for this condition, but it seems like it will only prevent the problem from becoming worse and not treat it.

Seen several doctors over the years. Even did a test for fungus at that skin hospital here and they said it was not fungus (i dont think the person who did the 'scrape' did a very good job or maybe the test turned out negative because i had already been applying a fungal cream.

Nothing's worked, i realise i need to keep my feet dry and not wear the same shoes everday etc etc, One pharmacist said my shoes MUST be dried in the sun,, of course i worry about the shoes being destroyed..

One doctor of mine a year ago, sweet man, said well.. hundreds of people may have really sweaty feet and may even walk areas where another person with athlete's foot has walked, this person may STILL not get it. Some just do! He mentioned that my toes are rather close together which doesnt help them to get dry in between the toes.

i cant help but believe most of these ailments are within, not outside so am wondering how to treat that rather than just topically.

Would you like to consult another skin doctor/dermatologist? I know one specialist at Mount Alvernia. He's pretty good because I went to him for treatment of warts on my feet and surprisingly one treatment was all i needed to treat my condition. And the doctor is very nice and friendly too. If you need his contacts, email me at [email protected]

I'll be happy to give you the details. :)

Hi, i'm a distributor of elken and there's actually a supplement called colostrum IG6 which is very good are curing such problem as it contains high amount of immunoglobins that have anti-viral, anti-bacteria, anti-fungus and anti-inflammation functions. Problem causing athletes foot is due to fungus infection, and is often exacerbated by the lack of anti-fungal action in people with weak immune system. Thus, you might be the one with weak immune system and fungus have invaded your foot.

pls emai me at [email protected] if you are interested to find how more about how the product can actually help you ya.

Hi Hopeless,

I think what joyfulgal states regarding fungal infections due to a weak immune system is very true.

I used to battle fungal infections on my feet and fingers since young all the way to adulthood. It would appear and dissapear without warning. Worst was during my BMT days. Sometimes, it gets so bad that it's bleeding and appears to be rotting. Well, I shall spare the details...

However, eversince I started exercising and eating well (lots of fruits and veges, multivitamins, etc.), the fungal infections totally dissapeared! Even my Mom asked me how come I stopped getting those infections.

I believe this was due to the improved immune system I had, thanks to the lifestyle of dieting and exercise. I even stopped falling sick (used to get sick easily and frequently. flu, fever, sore throat etc)

Sorry if I went off topic for a while. But I just wanted to support joyfulgal's statement regarding the link between infections and immune system.

Hope this helps you in some way.

Hey,

I used to suffer from athletes foot as well. It was extremely itchy and the skin on my soles would constantly be peeling. My feet would also randomly stink. What cured mine was soaking my feet in undiluted white vinegar for about 5 to 6 hours everyday for about a week. It stung like hell but the fungus magically disappeared and never returned. Make sure you soak your nails as well.

Another observation I made was that washing using basic solutions such as body soaps as opposed to acids actually exacerbated the condition. Perhaps the fungi prefer basic environments. Hence i try to avoid rinsing my soles with soap as much as possible. This may not be applicable to all the fungi.

Also, when you trim your nails, never trim the corners as that's what led to my ingrown toenails and fungal infections in the first place. Ingrown toe nails are terrible for athlete's foot as the cavities between the nail and the toe bed are spots where the fungi can grow. It's hard to rinse those regions regularly.

Try to avoid anti-fungal pills as their effects on liver toxicity have not been studied well enough.

Hope that helps!
