As far as I know, beef cheeks are the muscles which control and power chewing. As you can imagine, they are relatively large in cows. They are dark, tough muscles that turns very tender after a long braising.

On the subject of food, I heard the other day that the French call custard sauce d'anglais or something similar. C'est vrais mes amis?

Apologies if my french sound like franglais, GCSE French has taken me far but never to France. :)

I guess you're right (just asked my friend Google).

What we call crème anglaise seems to be what you call custard. Why? Ihave no idea.

Ok, so here's the 'cheaters guide' tip to decent escargot in Singapore -

If you are loathe to step into expensive French restaurants (only because I'd rather NOT afford them!), then head over to a 'Jacks Place' outlet. They serve escargot in garlic butter for a fairly decent price.

Voila! Tasty cheap snails! :P :D

Seraphim, yes it's expensive, but compare what is comparable... if you have a close look at the menu it's not so expensive I would say... When you know that the cheapest bottle of wine in any restaurant costs around $40 to 50 and here you can taste several of them plus the food at $98...

Don't you agree?

I do agree! So sorry, I didn't actually look at the menu.

But yes, you are right. I was just offering a cheaper alternative for people who would like to try escargot for the first time, and didn't have the opportunity to have it in a nice restaurant. Jack Place usually comes to the rescue at times like that.
