Hills are filled with fire
If they say I never loved you

Cops in cars, the topless bars
Never saw a woman...
So alone, so alone
So alone, so alone

Ma'am Viceroy, The End must be a fave of countless no. of people. I absolutely love it and to me it is poetry. And with Jim Morrison's silky voice, its heaven.
Your ballroom days are over, baby
Night is drawing near
Shadows of the evening crawl across the years
Ya walk across the floor with a flower in your hand
Trying to tell me no one understands
Trade in your hours for a handful dimes
Gonna' make it, baby, in our prime

Come together one more time
Get together one more time
Get together one more time
Get together, aha
Get together one more time!
Get together one more time!
Get together one more time
Get together one more time
Get together, gotta, get together

Ohhhhhhhh!

Hey, c'mon, honey
You won't have along wait for me, baby
I'll be there in just a little while
You see, I gotta go out in this car with these people and...

Get together one more time
Get together one more time
Get together, got to
Get together, got to
Get together, got to
Take you up in my room and...
Hah-hah-hah-hah-hah
Love my girl
She lookin' good, lookin' real good
Love ya, c'mon

I actually think Morrison was a pretty lousy poet, but a good lyricist. If that makes any sense to anyone apart form me. I went through a Doors phase when I was about 15/16 & still have a lot on my ipod. An interesting album is the doors in concert - you get a wonderful feel as to how Jim interacted with the audience. During the concert he reads from his poetry - he ain't no Milton that is for sure, he is just a bit obsessed with his own Mojo.

But:

"The cars hiss by my window
Like the waves down on the beach
The cars hiss by my window
Like the waves down on the beach
I got this girl beside me
But she's out of reach"

amazing how listening to those lyrics with the wonderful haunting slow music & beats creates such vivid imagery in your mind.

"Headlight through my window
Shinin' on the wall
Headlight through my window
Shinin' on the wall
Can't hear my baby
Though I called and called"

I can really picture a cheap motel room with shadows on the wall, caused by cars headlights through a Venetian blind, moving across the wall.

Great stuff!
"An intelligent man is sometimes forced to be drunk to spend time with his fools."
Hemingway

Like you say Baron, it is the combination of the lyrics, the unmatchable charisma of Jim Morrison, his voice and the transcendant hallucinative music, that makes it unique and extremely powerful.

I cannot imgagine better music when havin' sex... 8)

The rythm of 'Riders on the storm', man, all you need is that and a beautiful partner! :D

That's why I like rain so much! 'Riders on the Storm' is a prime example of simulation of that atmosphere! And baron, Jim was no poet, but was a great artist nevertheless!
It's not getting any smarter out there. You have to come to terms with stupidity, and make it work for you.

more like a snake...

Ride the snake, ride the snake
To the lake, the ancient lake, baby
The snake is long, seven miles
Ride the snake...he's old, and his skin is cold
