Securing success and happiness for our children

Post by KarMah12 » Mon, 20 May 2019 11:58 pm

Hi Parents!

I'm looking at developing a mobile app for kids (aged 5 -11) that will help them develop their EQ, or emotional intelligence. I believe that EQ is as important (if not more so) than IQ to a child's long-term success and happiness. The app will teach them to a)understand their own emotions, and the thoughts and situations that elicit those emotions, b) recognise those emotions in others, and c) self regulate. I first need to establish if there would be a market for such an app; as such, I was hoping you could share your support/constructive criticisms at the following link:

Many, many thanks!

100%. How do we stop schools from trying to incorporate them in anything/everything?

Home Schooling. It's becoming bigger and bigger here in recent years (still small though). There are some threads on this board. Try our search function here.

Yes, I understand. It's something we have looked at but it's a huge responsibility. Maybe I'm being an insecure parent here but I don't know if I'm a born educator! :-k

You are where most parents with young children are. Betwixt the devil and the deep blue sea. I'm lucky as mine are grown up, but my daughter who has two small boys (one 3+ that didn't have access to any electronic devices until 3 years old) has now managed to learn what the terrible 2s are all about and so has the parents. So now he has supervised access to the phone but only with a parent over his shoulder monitoring him. Short of that, I don't know any other way. With it it takes constant monitoring, without it puts the kids at a disadvantage with education.
