Regarding the News on the Recent Yishun Murder Case Involving Noise Pollution

Post by raptor_from_vietnam » Sat, 27 Sep 2025 4:01 pm

There is a recent news about a murder case which took place in Yishun. Apparently an old man went berserk from hearing the noise made by the kids living in the unit above. He went upstairs with a knife and killed the mother of those kids, a Vietnamese lady. While I don't really know who she is, as a new parent myself, I do feel very bad for the kids. Kids are kids, sometimes they cry sometimes they throw tantrum. But what disgust me even more is the public opinion after the event. On reddit, many comments are sympathetic to the assailants instead of the victim. Many even insinuate that because the victim is a foreigner, she must have been very noisy, causing the perpetrator to go insane. This is quite abhorrent to me. Perhaps I am biased because I am a foreigner myself. But since when your nationality decides whether you are right or not? Somebody has lost her life. Somebody has lost his wife. 2 young children will now grow up without a mother. And she is in the wrong because she is not Singaporean? I really hope the assailant will pay for his crime. But no matter what, the damage remains: the 2 young kids will now be without a loving mom.

I think the killer got annoyed with the persistent noise, didn't think he knew anything about her country of origin. I think noise causes a lot of stress for people especially if it's never-ending. And maybe the guy is already suffering from depression ..

He's referring to the comments on Facebook under the Straits Times news article. Not the murderer himself.

I would like to think that those are the noisy minority views and not to be taken seriously. The relative anonymity of the internet allows all the filth to get on their soapbox.

I recall similar comments years ago when the Indian mother of 2 was crushed by a falling tree at Botanic Gardens.

I presume the majority of people would see it similar to how most of us react - we think of the trauma of the little kids who lost their precious mothers. Some of us being parents ourselves, it is absolutely heartbreaking to think of our own kids losing their parents - similarly heartbreaking for the kids of the 2 women who were killed.

I see, yup quite disturbing - the comments that we read online, they can sound very insensitive and come off very heartless. Sometimes, I try not to read new article comments, it angers me.
