Bringing domestic helper with us from HK when we move

Post by Leeleeandy » Tue, 23 Apr 2013 10:48 am

Hello, we will be relocating to Singapore in July this year. We are an Aussie/British family who are currently in HK and would like to bring our lovely domestic helper with us when we move. I'd love to hear from anyone who has done this or knows any information on requirements and procedures for this. How do we go about organizing her visa etc. we would appreciate any info and advice.
Thanks!

He nationality is a big +

Have a look through the MOM website.

Worse case you might have to engage (pay) a maid agency to process her FDW pass.

Be aware you have to pay a levy (really a tax) on her here.
Now I'm called PNGMK

In Singapore many things are race based. Philippines is an approved nationality so no issues there. Move here first and then use work permit online portal of ministry of manpower to complete the formalities.

The procedure is very straightforward and I've done it myself. Basically get approval in principal, get bond insurance, do health check and collect documents. Don't use any maid agency as they are mostly dishonest and not at all needed.

Best would be is for you to move here first, get your immigration and accommodation sorted out and then bring her in. If she comes in on a visitor visa and then tries to convert to a work permit the authorities might misunderstand.

Do note you have to pay an additional $S 285 monthly levy to the government to keep a maid.
